Here's a MSNBC article from this morning.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22725498/ The CNN report just said that it could be as high as 1000 dollars per single or 1700 dollars per family. |
Give a big thanks to China for that :thumbsup
|
That's only for people who make under 75k a year.

Lawmakers are discussing a $500 rebate for individuals, said aides to lawmakers involved in the talks, with details for couples and people with children still being negotiated. The rebates would likely be limited to individuals with incomes of $85,000 or less and couples with incomes of $110,000 or less, the aides said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no final decisions had been made.

i just sat hear and heard CNN say the numbers i posted above and the printed it on the screen. WTF? how does 1000.00 to singles drop to 500.00 when a diff news source reports it? lol. so far i've heard 3 diff figures from 3 diff news agencies. hahaha. |
Where do they get the money from when they do something like this?
It says it's going to cost 100 billion, but what's going to get cut to pay for it? Especially since Republicans don't like taxes. |
MATT you have 9,999 posts

cnn said we wont see the money til summer anyway...

I would rather see the fed move the tax brackets further out for several years. Or cut the damn property taxes at the state/local levels. It is quite fucked up in my opinion that when real estate values are on a decline the taxes assessment is substantially increased. At least here in Florida. This move is just a gov't promotion before elections. If anyone willing to give me xx,xxx i'll send you 100% Free $1,500! |

its such a waste of money, its like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound. Want to know what would help, say credit card interest can be written off again and make it retroactive to 2007. That spur spending like they want. I like how bush is telling them to keep his tax cuts, its like dont you see the mess all around you.

I'm not necessarily against it but the only way to get this money is future taxation.
We are looking at a increase in debt to be paid in taxes later. In return we will get about a 1% increase in GDP because face it if you give people who make less than $75k/year some extra money they are gonna spend it, not save it. If Bernanke is right and we are facing a slowdown which could get close to recession but not quite reach it the extra 1% spending will increase the odds of not having a recession and probably keep us out of one. If Bernanke is wrong and we face a substantial recession then this is, as tony404 said, just a bandaid that ain't gonna help much. Two points of view. No one knows which is right. |

This has got to be the dumbest administration to ever goven a country
fuckin stupid:2 cents: |
Count yourself lucky - the only "rebate" we get in the UK is the promise of not being raped with a stick every month... and my ass still hurts from last months raping...
|
I love my country ;-)

My home in San Diego which i call a 4 bedroom shed as its just wood and stucco cost me £5,000.00 ( $10,000.00 ) a year property tax. Then there's State and Federal tax, Business tax ( $800 minimum even if you dont make a profit ) Business and home improvement tax ( an example would be if you re modeled you home and spent $500,000.00 the tax would be 2% extra every year therafter. I could go on and on but the UK looks mighty appealing right now what with the £ to $ exchange rates....:2 cents: |

kind of funny how the USA is trillians of dollars in debt and now decides to send out $800 cheques to around 250 million people. lol
|
Didn't they make people pay those back the last time?
Won't they do that again... but this time _after_ the election? |

From what I read they are only sending to ppl who make less than 85k. I would assume lots of ppl here won't be getting checks and the others are post whores who are in dire need of it.

It would be nice to have my gov't just give me a check for there stupidity but I'm sure that would lead to some stupid shit happening later. Goodluck lol
|
Wow, he's a big spender good 'ol Georgie-boy... first blowing astronomical amounts of your money on warfare to keep up the moneyflow in some less ethical business,
and now he's gonna hand out cash to people... Money which those of You that pay the most taxes ARE/WILL BE paying for - "it's gonna cost more to not be poor" (and those who already are poor will be even more fucked). Think about it... exactly HOW big a hypocrites are the republicans in charge? Unreal! |
so this basically means that people over 75k a year, like a lot of us here are going to be getting taxed heavier to give the nitwits that are terrible with money more money to go spend at walmart on toys and shit they don't need to survive in life.
awesome. |
I'd rather they used the money to help pay off the national debit.

The "home improvement tax" seems stupid - surely the government would prefer people to bring their shit-tips up to scratch, so that said shit-tips increase in value, thus encouraging house purchases in formerly shitty areas, and overall boosting the economy; taxing people who want to improve their homes seems to be equivalent to knocking people in education on the head with a lump hammer. :2 cents: |

Repaying will be the job of the next government, probably the democrats. So they will be blamed for increased taxes and cuts in the military ..... while this bozo will be remembered for this fat check ....:disgust |
Yeah that will save the US economy :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh
|
So they are just going to hand over the cash to everyone in the country who earns under $75K?
Thats messed up.... Surely opening up the health service would be money better spent - Talk about short sighted.... |
Even people who didn't earn it will get it. You pay for there checks!:thumbsup
