Just heard on the radio, that ICQ is not going to be free next year, anybody know anything about that???

why would that not work? charge for access to the ICQ network (logon).

It won't work because there are so many other free services. We already went through this with e-mail, this is all bullshit. ICQ is not going to charge shit, because it doesn't cost them shit & they get advertising revenue.

Whatever radio station you heard this on is full of shit / misinformed

i wont use it. back to email for me them. or aol IM, or yahoo IM, or someone will come up with a new one that will work just as well for free again..

would it be worth it? a lot of people seem to like ICQ, so i'm guessing yeah.

Everyone wants money. It's the magic of such products, get the people addicted and build up a volume. Enough that even if only 10% of the people using the software stayed and paid you can still profit in the millions.

ICQ is my main messenger, but lately it has been acting weird.
I'd still would pay for the use of the service though. I hate MSN, YAHOO, AOL... and all the others.

Yeah, icq is going to be charging for it's services, Bill Gates gave over a half-billion dollars away to promote Hotmail and OJ didn't do it.

I'd pay for ICQ and MSN.

Over 400 contacts on ICQ deal with them on a daily basis using ICQ.

The day ICQ will charge for their service I will create a free copy of it for adult web-masters - for FREE. and they know it... not about me specifically :winkwink: But about the fact that people have alternatives like MSN and others.. So no truth to that.

That rumor originated out of Russia, Membrana magazine to be specific...They essentially claim that ICQ shareholders are pissed that they aren't making any $ and are considering charging because of that.

1. I doubt any Russian mag/e-zine is going to 'scoop' any mag/news org in the US.

2. The 'proposed' charges sound a lot like the rumors that have been around forever and some sucker bought into them.

3. Nobody knows what they're going to do...but with the introduction of a 'lite' version, it's not hard to believe that ICQ will offer a 'premium' service in the future...leaving the 'lite' version free.

And Lensman and the ADULT.COM TEAM! are going to start charging for GFY usage. 10 cents per 300 word post -- $50 activation fee for new name. $5 for everytime you change your caption. $100 per line in sig, $25 a month for banner in sig.

Yeah... it's $750 setup fee and $320 annual fee payable to ICQ USA...

I downloaded it, got it, but I still have to use ICQ it won't take my icq list. When I emailed them I never got an answer. Some other webmaster told me my icq list is to large

Now I can't even ad anybody to my icq list anymore.. yikes!

I swore I'd never use it ... now I don't know what I'd do without it. I don't see it as a great interruption, personally. I can tell people I'm too busy to talk if that's the case, or put myself Not Available.
