Sweaty Women Stretching: Yoga
I took my first yoga class last night. It was Hatha yoga, where you get into a pose, hold it, then rest for a bit before the next pose. I found it kind of weird. Some of the poses really stretched my muscles and obviously did something, but other poses just felt silly and weird.
Does anyone else here do yoga? Do you like it? What type of yoga is your fav? I'm not sure what I think of it, but I'm going to take a few more classes to figure that out. |
Pics please. Sorry that I have to be THAT guy.
|
I've done namaste yoga. Some of the moves are so complicated and I'm not coordinated enough to pull them off, but it's so relaxing. I follow the one on the fitness channel and they play really soft and relaxing music and have great nature backgrounds constantly changing behind the gals. I love it.

so how'd you make do with downward facing dog? my fucking hips juswt do no tbend like that! but i'm assuming they will loosen up eventually if i keep stretching...
|
I've been doing Bikram Yoga for about 4 months now 2-4 times per week and it all feels weird at first but after about a month, you'll start feeling like you're 15 again.
Keep with it, that's the key. |
ive thought about it, yoga at my gym is all hotties

ismokeblunts: I manage downward facing dog no problem. It's hard to hold it, but I don't feel it in my hips really. The one I had trouble with was somethingorother eagle where you have to balance on one foot while you have your other leg wrapped around that leg. Hard to describe, hard to do. |
I love sweaty Yoga Ladies

this thread is worthless. Somebody save the thread
EDIT: OK, I'll do it :) http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/200...DM_468x310.jpg |

I swear I just posted on another board that I was thinking about taking yoga or something. Very cool.
|
no pics of sweaty women stretching :(

I haven't done yoga for years. But the thing I love about it is the idea of having a "practice." You are not a "yellow belt" or 9th level or anything. You are always midway on your journey. Simply living your practice. Long after my flexibility faded, that lesson still rings strong for MANY aspects of my life.
|
I do Hatha regularly and kundalini from time to time. It is tougher (Hatha at least) than most think and helps guys/girls like us that sit on a computer all day long. Stretch them non working muscles!
:thumbsup |
i do vinyasa yoga with the lady at the gym. One thing I know is that it helps a TON with my back. Helps keep my hips open too. They still aren't that open, but without it though it's really bad. Works for me. I thought I would hate it, but it actually has worked out really nicely. Helps that I like the lady that gives the class.
|
Halcyon, I agree, that's a really cool concept and certainly one that could be carried over into other aspects of life.
Oystein, what is different about Kundalini? I'm afraid I have only attended the one Hatha yoga class, so I don't know about all the types yet. bDok, same question for you, what is Vinayasa? pornask: thank god we have you to add pics ;) |
I just added "Yoga: Power Within" to my netflix, yay. :1orglaugh
|
Bikram Yoga or Vinyasa Flow/Power Flow are the way to go...

I've done a few types of yoga but benefited most from Yoga In Daily Life's system (http://www.yogaindailylife.org) ... they follow the Hatha Yoga principal of holding postures and breathing into them. Its more about meditating and adding some movement than exercising ... I love love love love love it and am always dragging my friends along for classes ... in a way it saved my life, not just physically for healing but mentally its fabulous for handling stress. I'm surprised there's never been a yoga porn site .... :1orglaugh |

I hear a lot of involuntary farting goes on in these classes. That'd crack me up (I'm that low brow).

For the last year, I did YogaFit. My teacher originally was affiliated with a Taekwondo school then started teaching it at the gym. We did the ultra version which is vinyasa based but she also sort of did her own thing with it. I started after taking Pilates (which I hated) and really enjoyed it. I could definitely see changes in my body and the classes were really enjoyable.
She got hurt a few months ago and won't be teaching anymore, which sux. I started bjj lessons in October and thought I would really like it, but I'm in a class with the biggest fucking retards you could ever imagine (guys). Saturday, one of them slammed me back on a mat with his full weight and bent my arm and shoulder back behind me. He also outweighs me by more than 150 pounds. I thought I was going to die it hurt so bad and now I'm all messed up. I had to go to an orthopedic surgeon Monday. I want my yoga class back. :( |

cj_purve, I haven't seen a yoga porn site, but I've seen a few flexibility based ones that feature women in all kinds of flexible poses ;)
Holly, I did BJJ for a year and a bit and LOVED it. But I was in a very small class... so small it was just me and the instructor for about the first nine months. Eventually I just started working out in the men's class because the women that were coming in were too damned delicate to do real BJJ. It was turning into a workout class and it sucked. However, I have worked out with retards who won't moderate the amount of force they use and end up hurting anyone near them, and it sucks. |
