Is this designer a scam artist or what? Thoughts?
 

Ok ? as some of you know I often hire designers via GFY for small projects and various jobs. I recently hired a designer for a simple project. I needed a single web page designed within a certain time frame and was promised by the designer that he would have this done by the end of the day if I would pay 500.00 for a single page. I agreed and against my better judgment sent the designer half the payment up front via epassporte.

Note--- the only reason I was willing to pay so much for a single simple page was because the page was time sensitive and I needed it by the end of the day. I sent the designer numerous messages after sending the money and all of them except the very first one ( where he told me he had not even started yet ) has went unanswered.
At this point all I want is my money back.

you know who you are and I would appreciate it if you would return my money. No need for this to get ugly? just send my money please

im having the same problem with a designer i hired last month a 4 days job has now turned into a 4 week job and it come with tons of excuses.

Not disclosing the name of the cheater makes you an assessory to a cheater

Man that sucks. I know how you feel though.
I asked a designer to make 4 simple animated banners for me. He said you will have them by tomorrow. so, 3 days on i get back to him and ask where my banners are. He says i havent started them yet, what do you want on them. I told him I had sent the information and to go to my website for further infomation. another 2 days passed and still nothing.
After telling him 3 times to give me my $55 back, he sent them to me. They took him 20 minutes to do.

Good designers are hard to find.

yeah banners dont take long, thats for sure. :)

my advice to people is, no matter how good the price, you should use someone who is VISIBLE and ACTIVE on the boards, let their reputation and availability be the deciding factor in who you choose, not the "cheapest you can get."

not saying you guys did that,m but more often than not its the "price chasers" who get ripped off, not the guy who pays a few dollars more to someone who has been around and EARNED a reputation that is worth more than the two dollars you save.

unfortunately, the thread starter's designer seems very visible and very active here unless i got wrong when he said **** are hired

then this must be a first for the designer? because if the person had a REPUTATIOn for being this way with clients, clients would go elsewhere.

I don't know who was hired or who the OP is referring to.

But its easy to find a designer these days and those who state otherwise are looking in the wrong direction, or for the wrong main concern (price)

All jokes aside though, it really does suck.
Perhaps the person in question has some reasonable explanation for this?

Either way, i whish you all the best in getting from him what you are owed, its not nice getting scammed.

I am glad i have never been scammed, but then i dont outsource for design and coding as i do it myself :thumbsup

Based on the fact that the designer did return my funds.... without issue I would give them another shot in the future

Seems risky as it appears good ol gfy came through and instigated his action. I guess as Fletch said, if they are active here and their reputation is on the line then maybe you at least have a safety net. Just curious, did you offer to only pay him half up front and then the other half after he completed the work within the time sensitive frame?

More like if they didn't, they would lose business/respect. Smart the way you didn't give out the info in your post.

I actually have some people who send me 100% payment before even sending me their order!

The first time that happened, I was like, "where did all this money come from?"

Then I checked my email and had an order from a previous client who didnt like doing 50% up front and 50% to finish. He and a few others now just send me the money up front and tell me what they need after.

As I said, reputation is where you should look, not prices.
