Fuck - is my jaw broken??
 

Yesterday, me and another guy collided when playing ultimate frisbee at the u. his hand and the side of my head collided, and he broke his wrist (badly - they had to put him out to readjust his hand - luckily his left hand tho). i was shaken up pretty bad, i was in pain, but not that much. overtime tho, my jaw got worse and worse and now it hurts like a bitch and i cant even eat cause it hurts too much to move my mouth. for some reason, the side of my neck, halfway down, hurts a lot too..

so, anyone know if my jaw is broken? how can i tell? also.. how long do u think the pain will last so i can eat again?

I took a right hook hard to the jaw once and it tightened up real bad ~ after ice and heat the muscle relaxed and I was fine.

Of course if you're really concered you should go to the doctor, or at least the walk in clinic.

I am not an MD, but I think that there would be very noticeable swelling if your jaw is broke. None the less you should have an X-Ray.

i want to go, but the lineups are insane..

my friend (with the broken wrist) had to wait 4 hours befoer anyone saw him.. id be there for like 6.

You can tell if it is broken by tapping it with your fingers, on the chin or opposite side of your jaw. If you get a sharp pain by lightly tapping an area away from the injury, it is probably broken. It sounds more like a soft tissue injury since your neck hurts as well. Did it pop when you got hit?

Let me come over and tap on it a bit with my fist... (Yup broken now) Sorry, just feeling hostile today...

it doesnt hurt that much if i tap the outside, but hurts a LOT when i try to open or close my mouth

Could be out of socket, but once again there should be very noticeable swelling. You really should have an X-Ray.

you probably just strained the muscles and ligaments. try ice, motrin and soft food for a day or so. if it doesn't feel better in a day or so, then go to the doc.:2 cents:
