ZOMBAIO = horrible choice for company name.

Some people tend to really over-reach, or get way to "cute" when trying to "think-up" a creative, new, marketable business name.

I understand that there isn't a whole lot left to pick from out there, but creating odd words with odd spellings is just a bad idea.

For example: ZOMBAIO

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? IT IS TOO LONG AND DOESN'T SPELL EASILY AND CAN'T BE PROMOTED VERBALLY BECAUSE OF THESE REASONS. I can't even remember how to spell it even after seeing it. You can't force crap like this on the public. Well, you'll have to work 100 times harder than the person who didn't pick such an odd name.

Now, why not pick something like Zomba? That is shorter, spelling is obvious - which makes it easily promoted verbally (word of mouth and on radio). That would be 100 times better for marketing and promotion.

Zomba?
Zombo?
Zoomba?

When you mix in "aio" nobody will get it. NOBODY. It's like adding an extra layer of nonsense that wasn't needed at all - unless you found that you could register zombiao.com for the flat registration fee (instead of buying zomba for $250).

Mother fucker I hate bad marketing attempts!

BUT I DO LIKE YOUR GRAPHICS AND YOUR ADS! They are NICE!

RyuLion 01-29-2008 08:07 PM

bad choice IMO

they are trying to be cute like google, yahoo, etc, but shouldn't be doing that because they are a fucking processing company

Vick! 01-29-2008 08:23 PM

Well, I agree too.

I never bookmark domains, but this was the one I did .. after forgetting a couple times, when they were launched last year.

Tell that the people from Sony who branded VAIO :1orglaugh

I agree with you though. The name Zombaio is really stupid but not that difficult to remember in my opinion. Just think about a Zombie with a Vaio notebook.

Oh, you LOVE IT!

All the other board nicks were taken anyway.

Seriously, the skin and graphics are GREAT! The name just sounds like an amateur marketer trying to fit in a professional arena. The name is not good.

I can fake saying zombaio (zom-bay-oh) and most will know who I am talking about. But .~. is a lot tougher.

Zango 01-29-2008 08:39 PM

D Ghost 01-29-2008 10:24 PM

Actually the name kind of sticks in your head. And having a weird name like that that's hard to pronounce makes people think about tit more. Really, it's brilliant marketing.

who 01-29-2008 10:25 PM

I agree that it's crap. But it draws attention away from their crappy business model.

Boobs 01-29-2008 10:27 PM

People said the same about Google and Yahoo when they started...

Youtube and Veoh are also other examples...

It's obvious you know SHIT about marketing..

It's not about the name.. it's about the product. PERIOD.

tabasco 01-30-2008 12:51 AM

It sounds like it's some faggy European hatchback.

well, you can't really put a couple of search engines and some viral marketing sites in the same class as a processor asking to handle millions of dollars of our collective money every year

the sites you mentioned are "fun sites" in the eyes of the user, if they are reaching for that "fun site" appeal they might be the ones that need a lesson in marketing

yeah, it sticks out in my head, but it also sticks out in my head as a site that I would never do business with until I see some big boys climb on board and attest to the system being rock solid and here to stay

I still can't help thinking of Scott Baio every time I see their name..haha

ChargebackJoe 01-30-2008 02:14 AM

Zombaio in Swahili means 'you're screwed'

RomaCash 01-30-2008 04:36 AM

I know why.

ZOMBAIO means 'Billing provider' in zimbabvian.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwe

LOL.

Steve Awesome 01-30-2008 04:43 AM

.~. could be spoke as dot-Tilde-dot or perhaps shortened to d-tilde-d. Oh -- I got it. DTD.

cranki 01-30-2008 04:44 AM

Zombo.com

Matt_WildCash 01-30-2008 04:57 AM

I read Mainstream VC companies often expect to invest upto 40% of ll capital into a good solid name.

Why? it gives automatic creditability to a brand new business for potential customers who have never seen the business before.

Cash 01-30-2008 06:12 AM

BS name, sound like a joke ...

lbc213 01-30-2008 06:28 AM

The fact that you are talking about it here shows that it is pretty good marketing. :2cents

Oh you mean you used up all the other board nicks with your 53 fake nicks? Maybe you could sell them sexy ladies.com for their company name as surely everyone would remember that.
