who here still gets a newspaper delivered?
do you still subscribe for home delivery of a daily newspaper?
i had two newspaper routes as a kid and i'd say 80% of homes got a newspaper delivered. wonder what the % is today. |
We don't have delivery of anything to our homes parcel wise (no USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc) but there are boxes outside the gate. One set is used for mail and the other for ATL paper delivery. We must be the easiest route for both ;) Our local paper is once a week and it comes through the mail.
Before I moved up here I'd always had paper delivery but usually just Sunday. Here you can buy 2 editions of the Atlanta Sunday paper - first one is available Saturday night. On Sunday you can buy the 2nd edition and they also have the two together you can buy for a cheaper price than just one. Not sure why you'd want them both..... |
Papers around here come every Tuesday and Thursday...most people get them because it's free
Ooops - the double Sunday paper is cheaper than if you bought 2 papers, not cheaper than one ;)
I delivered 2 papers a day when I was a kid, too.
10 years ago I had 3 papers a day delivered - 2 in the morning and 1 in the evening. Now I get my news online. |
WSJ Monday through Saturday.

Newspapers are a tremendous waste of resources. They are an archaic medium that should be done away with completely. I think in my lifetime we'll probably see that happen in a lot of areas.
we get a paper once a week, free one comes sometimes
Besides the shitty free ones, no. The Ottawa Citizen is desperate for subscribers. They'll give you free newspapers for a few weekends, then send a bill. I'm sure they fool some people thinking they have to pay.
my dad still does, every tuesday and sunday :)
I get my local paper daily
I do, and read regularly..
I had my first route at 10 and soon after had a morning and evening route in my neighborhood. You'd have to go out and collect and even at that young age there were always some deadbeats dodging me for the few dollars a week their paper cost them. They were always the ones to complain if their paper was even a few minutes late.
I get the paper on Sunday only now and have no clue who delivers it. |
Newspaper? Whats that?

what they said... I only read the IntERweBZ |
I was until last month and then I cancelled my subscription early and am awaiting my refund check. They fired some of the writers and starting pushing views instead of reporting news and that is what lost me.
Sort of sucks as I liked having the local news and very much liked the coupons. |
I get my local paper daily :)

Shit they already use an absurd amount of recycled paper as the medium damn inks are now made of soy typically. Then let us face the real truth about paper. Using paper is good for the environment, period. Select logging, planting tree's, and all of that ends up keeping forests safer from wild fires and produces more tree's. Feel free to go look up actual stats and facts. As for an archaic medium, why? It is not as if the entire world let alone the entire country is wired for the internet today. Nor is the current internet all that dial up friendly anymore so the poor rural folks often get even more screwed when they try to get online. Typically most online news also is not local news unless your at your local newspapers website. Then besides the issue that many just like the look, feel, and smell of a paper. They also like its format and its ability to be taken wherever. You never have to turn off a paper during a flight, get it inspected by an electrician when your having a hospital stay, have its batteries die, nor have such a useful multi-tasker in the house. Readable, smashes bugs, can spank the dog, can bonk the kid, line the cages of pets, used as compost, or even used to train a new pet. |
use to get the local Sun newspaper delivered but now I just read it online free.
I get the San Diego Union Tribune delivered to my house daily. I just like reading the paper with a cup of coffee in the morning. I don't read it for the breaking news, but I like the feature articles and of course the comics.

I get the newspaper daily and read with my morning coffee.
We get our local one that comes out every week. Most of the info it is decent. Good for classifieds to keep up on some real estate stuff
I get it daily. Usually read it in the evenings.
I notice a lot of articles and human interest pieces in the print version that they don't include online. |
I don't know how I would take a dump without reading the newspaper.
I used to deliver papers too when I was younger!
My brother works in upper management at a rather large newspaper in the NYC area - in fact, he's in charge of all of the advertising. He tells me that their sales have dropped drastically in the past three years. |
I get a newspaper. Its great for local news, other news I get online.
are there paper boy/girls still? doubt it - kids today are too smart and too lazy to do a paper route for slave wages.
I still get the paper daily, and read it in the mornings with a cup of java.
Purple Haze |
I read mine on Kindle
I get the local paper. I had cancelled it once before though, and they gave me this deal like $1 per month to keep it so I renewed.
I just get it delivered on the weekends and holidays for all the ads.
I get the Times on Sundays only.
the printed papers in the morning show yesterdays news I saw on the net already :)
everyday except sunday
Only on Sundays for the coupons:)
I get one but I never read it, it just goes in the garbage.
I think I tried to cancel and they offered it for a $1 a year or something crazy like that, I forget. I guess they just want to keep their circulation up to keep the ad prices stable. I do sometimes read the sports pages during baseball season. As for the comment about newspapers being archaic, I agree but the reporting of the newspapers is not. All the deep news stories you hear about on websites, or we talk about on this board, were researched by a newspaper news desk. ONLY newspapers have the time to research a 6 month story and come out with a full report. TV and internet news companies have virtually zero reporting capabilities other than anchors and so-called "experts". Newspapers play a very important role in our democracy and I think some people don't realize that. Channels like CNN and MSNBC and FOX just recycle AP news. They don't investigate anything like newspaper staffs do. |
I get paper only on sundays. I like to wake up and to find the paper there, ready to read with a cup of coffe.
I get the local paper on the weekends and US Today during the week.
I do, daily.
I like the page 3 in the tabloids
