Fast DVD ripping tips

I got hundred of dvds to rip, I bought a quad core desktop with lots of ram and fast dvd player so it processes faster, but I still think that's too long.

Any tips on faster dvd ripping ?
Which software, which hardware do you use ?

Get more staff and more equipment.

More machines, cpu makes no difference for ripping but quadcore is great for encoding alot faster as long as your using encoding software that uses the quadcore stuff. We're about to upgrade all our encoding boxes from due core to quad core shortly to speed things up even more.

You have exemples of softwares using quadcore ?

I use dvdx, not sure that's the best choice

Disc and dvd drive quality are probably the only limiting factors these days. The former (most likely culprit) you can't do much about, the latter... well... buy a decent dvd drive.

Quad core / dual core / single core processor, memory, all that jazz is probably quite irrelavent unless you're transcoding / encoding.

Explain that please

You might hazard a guess, HDTV broadcasters and those alike probably use embedded transcoders to stream most of their content. That basically means no "Personal Computer" is involved in the process.

I'd hardly believe that is an appropriate solution for people encoding DV sources (or mpeg 2 in this hypothetical case) with a variety of mpeg 4 codecs.

I might add, "people" in the above context refers to the predominantly less-than-professional personnel pool in the adult industry, though no one would ever admit it. I suppose some sponsors / producers are making a bit of headway though :)
