If it weren't for Fox news Bush and Cheney and half this administration would be in jail.

Roger Ailes, who runs it, is a former Republican political operative. He should be put on trial for crimes against humanity.

Fox News is one of the worst things that ever happened to American democracy and to journalism. This is what happens when entertainment conglomerates acquire newspapers and tv news outlets. In the olden days, say 1992, these outlets viewed themselves as having a responsibility to be the "fourth estate" or the fourth house of representatives, speaking truth to power, not speaking lies to the people.

Sometimes I accidentally leave it on after watching Judge Judy while I am working. It takes me about 5 minutes before I get pissed listening to it and change the channel. They are so pro war it makes me puke.

ProjectNaked 03-01-2008 04:15 PM

I have it on through the day but usually on mute or low - I'm a junkie for breaking news :)

I think all the network news channels Americans are exposed to is pretty pathetic. They all have their agendas. It's not news anymore it's commentary.

In recent years, Australian-born billionaire Rupert Murdoch has used the U.S. government's increasingly lax media regulations to consolidate his hold over the media and wider political debate in America. Consider Murdoch's empire: According to Businessweek, "his satellites deliver TV programs in five continents, all but dominating Britain, Italy, and wide swaths of Asia and the Middle East. He publishes 175 newspapers, including the New York Post and The Times of London. In the U.S., he owns the Twentieth Century Fox Studio, Fox Network, and 35 TV stations that reach more than 40% of the country...His cable channels include fast-growing Fox News, and 19 regional sports channels. In all, as many as one in five American homes at any given time will be tuned into a show News Corp. either produced or delivered." But who is the real Rupert Murdoch? As this report shows, he is a far-right partisan who has used his empire explicitly to pull American political debate to the right. He is also an enabler of the oppressive tactics employed by dictatorial regimes, and a man who admits to having hidden money in tax havens. In short, there more to Rupert Murdoch than meets the eye.

I don't know if any of you saw this, but Fox at it's finest.

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/78148/

"You can get all the news you can at Fox, now here's Tom with Star Trek strippers...."

(In all fairness, maybe a sunday morning broadcast shouldn't be a heavy political discussion, but it also shouldn't be Star Trek Strippers. Ideally, there should be a very clear divide between 'light' junk segments and actually news. There's so many complicated events happening everyday, yet these 24hr news channels have to create shit to report on.)

Another interesting part is the montel link.

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/mediaculture/75800/

And his show got canceled 3 days after the appearance.

"CBS Television Distribution has announced that the Montel show is ending its run after 17 years on the air. The syndicated talk show?s fate was reportedly sealed when a number of FOX-owed stations decided against renewing the show for another year. "

http://tvseriesfinale.com/articles/t...fter-17-years/

I think Montel has probably done his share of shit jerry spinger-esque shows, but having him canceled is insane. 17 years on the air, then you get punked by news corp.
