So I go to Network Solutions...

and I search the availability of a domain I thought of. So it is available and I call one of my partners and ask him if he likes it and wants it. He says yes then calls me and says it's taken. Network Solutions registered it immediately after my search, then forced us to buy it for $35 bucks instead of getting it at GoDaddy for $8. I guess that's better than charging $100, but damn!

The only reason I searched it at Network Solutions was that the last domain I thought of I searched at whois.sc then it was snagged an hour after the search.
This seems like some crooked A** Bull%^& to me, but perhaps someone can share similar experiences with domain registrars? Lesson learned, don't search, just buy. If it ain't available I'll find out soon enough.

comeplay 03-04-2008 07:54 PM

Iron Fist 03-04-2008 07:55 PM

minddust 03-04-2008 08:44 PM

Was worth the extra money to make sure we get it. But I definitely will not search domain names in the future at network solutions. Looking at the whois it said Network Solutions had purchased it, and the record expires in a year.

Try networksolutionssuckdonkeydick.com (or similar) ... based on past experiences it will be taken.

Fat Panda 03-04-2008 08:52 PM

Why are people using 3rd party whois ? Why not use own whois and request directly Verisign servers ?
whois -h whois.crsnic.net isthisdomainstillfree.com

great info, thanks.

Or may be this one http://www.internic.net/whois.html ?

2012 03-04-2008 09:42 PM

thats terrible ... I hope they liked registering some of the names I gave them

GrouchyAdmin 03-04-2008 09:54 PM

It's a shame they're a registrar and it only costs them $0.25 to register and release. It'd be fun to start sending them a few hundred requests a minute just to watch them choke.

That depends :)

I once was fucked up again by whois.sc (now domaintools.com).

Searched for a domain name, it was availaible... Thought that I will reg it in a few days and eh, it was already registered.

Some bitches love to use logs, so if you are looking for a domain name and it's not taken, register instantly :)

Babaganoosh 03-05-2008 02:05 AM

Haha, cocksuckers

http://whois.domaintools.com/network...nslikespie.com

GrouchyAdmin 03-05-2008 02:07 AM

Let that be a lesson to you.. NS is a bunch of scammers.. Domaintools.com (aka whois.sc) do the same stuff. Godaddy does it too.

crockett 03-05-2008 02:37 AM

btw I've naver had that problem at Moniker.. I often leave domains in my shopping cart for days at a time.

To you and everyone else who thinks they can make netsol go out of business by running a whois on millions of domains - sorry but they don't actually pay money to anyone when they hold a domain like this.

But everytime they "taste" the domain it blocks $6.49 of their credit with Verisign till deletion.

Nikki_Licks 03-05-2008 05:43 AM

network solutions sucks ass....always has, always will :321GFY

BlackCrayon 03-05-2008 06:06 AM

They are currently being sued for doing this. Too bad others aren't so open about it and get away with it.
