My dad is doing MUCH better :)

Yep, he is talking again and he appears to be healthy. He still can't walk, but it doesn't help that he's been stuck in a hospital bed for the last 6 months. At one point it was looking very bad, but now, even though he's still in the hospital, he is doing much better.

The docs had said that his brain shrunk drastically and that would mean brain damage/memory loss, but he has not forgotten anything..

he remembers all of his kids bdays, his ex wife's (my mom) bday, all of our names, names of people he hasn't seen in a long time and the list goes on.. Oh, he remembers that I owe him $1200. I made a joke when I was at the hospital the other day and said "Why couldn't you have forgotten THAT?" lol He laughed.

I'm just happy that at least this is going right. Everything else in my life is going to shit, but all that really mattered to me was that my dad would make it out of this. Here are a few pics from our last visit (Sunday). Ignore the date on the pics. The digital camera fucked something up.

The people in the pics are me (the long haired hippy), my brother (with the "hat" on), the chubby blond is my brother's wife, the redhead is my sister and the guys with the almost shaved head is her bf.

hey that's great news - did they give you any idea when he can leave the hospital for home or a rehab place?

Christina Muller 03-05-2008 11:24 PM

They never mentioned anything or even had an answer when we asked them. What I do know is that his wife wants to put him in an "old folks home". That, to me is like spitting in his face. I mean he's your damn husband, help him get better and be there for him, but we know that she's doing this so she doesn't have to deal with that. My dad is not happy about that.

Mutt 03-05-2008 11:30 PM

he has feeling in his legs i assume?

well if his wife doesn't want to take care of him what about you and your siblings?

i wouldnt want to see my parents go into an 'old folks home' either.

yep, he has feeling his legs. Right now, none of us have the room to accommodate him which really sucks, but we will have a little chat with his wife about this. I mean shit, she takes care of a mentally retarded woman and that is a whole lot worse than my dad's situation.

As soon as my dad can walk again he would not require help. Nevertheless, his wife should be there for him no matter what.. Ya know, for better or worse?

I'm glad your dad is doing better. The more support you and your family give him, the better he will get.

That's awesome news man, I remember reading your first post and thinking how desperate I'd in such situation.

I hope he gets 100% better soon.

:)

Great news!

I was wondering what happened ....but to afraid to ask, incase it wasn't good news. Your Dad's wife?? I wouldn't trust her to take care of him, even if she agree's.

Elli 03-06-2008 12:24 PM

Back when I made the initial thread I was a total mess. Was hard to do anything, work or otherwise. I'm sure that soon enough he will be back 100%. :)

no need to be afraid to ask. Whatever you want to know just ask and I will answer. I agree with what you say about my dad's wife. Going to have to see what else can be done.

Good news man. I went through something very similar with my Dad.

Anything positive is something to cherish. Enjoy every moment you can now and make sure you guys take care of each other.
