HD Cams... who know's what's coming soon???
 

Seen a couple of threads about this recently, but only regarding what's out there.

I am looking to get an HD cam... the Panasonic HVX-200 or the SONY XDCAM EX1 both look pretty good in their own ways. The Canon line looks great too.

Anyone know of anything announced that's coming soon? Just want to research before I jump in the pool.

Dood, I have shot with all the camras I am going to talk about and they are all good.

HVX200 -fine if you are shooting your own content or your client ASKS for DVCPRO HD P2 footage. Otherwise FORGET IT because it is too big of a process to educate the client on the workflow. The Panasonic camreas tend to have the best sound but 95% of porn shooters do not even think about sound so this is basically a moot point.

Sony EX1- This is true 1080P and the dynamic range kicks the ass of all the other cameras. BUT, they put a cocksucking CMOS sensor in it with a rolling shutter so that when you try to video a girl getting her picture taken with flash then the picture is FUCKED. Regardless, this is THE HOT camera right now and shoots amazing pictures as long as you stay away from strobes.
Like the HVX it shoots to card instead of tape but it shoots to flash cards instead of those outdated P2 cards Panasonic uses.

Canon A1 H (or whatever the fuck the model number is)
This has a great image that is sharp. Everyone who buys this camera seems to love it. It shoots outdated HDV (yes you douchebags HDV is already outdated) but that does not matter one freaking bit because mini DV tapes will be around for decades and it is STILL THE BEST WAY TO HAND YOUR FOOTAGE TO A CLIENT.

Cameras on the horizon
Panasonic has a new camrea on the way but that won't be till fall and they are always late on delvery so I would predict December or January delivery.

RED is comming out with a "pocket professional" camera named "Scarlet". They will debut at Scarlet at NAB next month in Vegas. So far no details have been made public.

Me? I shoot on DVCPRO HD with the HVX200 and dump the footage onto Lacie harddrives and send to the client. But I might buy either of the other 2 cameras mentioned in this post depending on the client.

I talked about that Panny in my post. Not for another 10 months so not worth waiting for.

i went with sony hdv..i like tapes, easy to delivery content this way. if you shoot content for your own site(s), guess it would be great to use p2 or hdd directly.
