Tech Help. Data recovery from X drive Please. RIP OFF?

After a defrag, my Maxtor 80 gig X drive could not be found.
I have all my backs on that drive.
Maxtor wants $295 for tech help (just to try)

Research has many companies that do the same, BUT around the same price.

Any help would be truly appriciated.

I hardly ever reach out. Anyone? This close to spending 3 notes to get my data,

LiveDose 03-12-2008 09:59 AM

Is it an external drive?

$295 is not bad to be honest. There are companies that start at $800, but they will take the drive first and do a check on it and send you a list of what exactly can be saved. I believe that alone is around $100

Try this program first. I had the same thing happen to me about 2 months ago and this freebie helped me transfer everything to another drive.

If it works you will need disk space on another drive to transfer your files to.

Good luck! I was amazed at how easily this program found everything.

Maxtor sucks as hard as Seagate's 320GB SATA (the only model I RMAed 23423 times)

There is the impossible (but I've done it before) : try to find a replacement circuit board (the exact same thing! there's at least 4 "models" of 80 gig Maxtor..)

I suppose this drive only have data and doesn't have to load Windows...
put the drive into the freezer for like 10-15 minutes to get it cold, plug it back in the puter let it load windows and hopefully copy some of the data.

If everythings fail, and you think your stuff worth it:
http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/ it cost a arm & leg but their success rate have been really good for me, I've lost 2 gig of the 500 gig drive I've sent them:thumbsup

That may work; need to skip to Best Buy and get a storage box.

Good luck man. I feel your pain.

I was very happily surprised that this gem helped me recovery every single file...

Stop being fucking cheap. If you need your data, then just pay it and get it back. The going rate for actual competent recovery is about $1200 per incident.

DeadFidel I can prolly help I have some high end recovery software, it's strange you can't find the drive at all but if anything is going to work this will hit me up

Kind of funny coming from a guy with "Richcunts" in his sig.

But HOW is it being cheap asking for other methods of recovering data before you give money to "TRY" to recover.

If you've never been through a drive crash your not really going to be up on all the resources and methods out there.

Cheap? Don't think so.
