US money cost more to make then it's worth?

i hate touching money, dont like cash - i use card as often as i can and hope one day i can just swipe swipe swipe for everything and never touch a coin or bill...

Yes, this was in the news about 1 year ago, and people were actually melting down huge amounts of coins to make a profit. It's now illegal to do that, or always was, but now it's more watched for.
