There seems to be one of these threads every week or so. I love technology, but for filming good porn the camera one uses is almost trivial compared to the kind and amount of lights one uses and the skill in setting those lights up on the set, plus the quality of the models and the camera person's handling of the camera and the editor's skills. Just saying.... One could jerk off to technical specs, but I'd rather see a hot photo or video clip!

Yea.. I still rarly shoot HD because it takes so much more space and room to edit

I bought a Sony PMW-EX1 almost 3 months ago and it's still sitting here in the box. Just haven't had the time to learn the camera yet. Plus the workflow is going to take some changes since we're currently shooting on HDV cams (tape) and the EX1 is full HD (solid state). I'll let you know what I think of it if I ever get it out of the box. :winkwink:

I totally agree with the previous response, no matter what camera you use, nothing will compare with good lighting, camera work and editing. But on the Tech side... I prefer and use the Panasonic HVX 200, Multi formats available (720p to 1080i), variable frame rate shooting, direct to edit with p2 or external hard drive (no capturing... yea) and DVCPRO HD vs hdv ..... Just my opinion

thats my issue with the panny as well...

p2 cards...

we have all devoleped a certian workflow with tapes and what not...

like with shoot doc's you may shoot 200 tapes before you start your editing... then you sit down and only capture as you need...

with the panny I know you can capture to p2 and tape at same time but did I read somewhere that you can only do HD on the p2 cards?

as far as lighting and all that go's we have everything thats not a prob....

just looking to pick up a slew of HDcams... from everything im reading I almost have it narrowed between

the v1u and z1u

the v1u has 24p and the z1u which is the pro model has a cinemafeel 24f and 30f so here I sit wondering....

I use the Sony FX7 and love it.

I have a Panny HVX-200 and a Sony Z1U. Depending on the needs. For the highest quality HD the Panny is best, if the client has no intentions other then web use the Sony HDV format is more then enough

For Hd I would look at this one http://bssc.sel.sony.com/Broadcastan...overview.shtml
its supposed to be amazing in low light and 1/2 inch chips.

you can;t say the panny is the best because it does not produce a true 1440x1080 it's less I think like 12??x1080

from everywhere I read I read the that HDV is better quality is panny is more for indie film makers...

my buddy over at MDP they all use the panny but for some reason I don't think I like it or the p2 cards...

can I cruise over today and play with both yours for a few min see which one I like better? friday is make or break day for me I gotta make my mind up and I need to pick up about 9 of them

Lance69 03-19-2008 03:11 PM

I'm using the Canon XH-A1, just never did like the Sony HDs for some reason... no real reason just my preference. As for the Panny, it's a great cam but more money for it and the cards than I wanted to spend.

ive heard good things about that camera as well....

I use the HVX200 but I see alot of sites using HD cameras but have no idea how to encode their footage. No point in using a quality camera like the Panasonic and then encode it badly interlaced with crappy bitrates. There's some big sites who have alot of cash for fancy cameras but no technical ability to back it all up. I'd rather have crisp 320x240 than some of those fake "HD" movies out there.
