GFY DOCTORS, what's the consensus on tanning ? (pics)
What is more risky?
Tanning beds http://www.suntanning.com/images/A1-solaris336.gif or tanning on the beach with natural sunlight? http://www.bestoffloridaonline.com/images/beachfun1.jpg |
Tanning beds are worse...they use artificial UVA and UVB rays, which is exactly the same as the sun though. So you would think they would be the same.
In a tanning bad though you get exposure to a lot of radiation. Also, when tannning in natural sunlight, the body makes vitamin d which is good. So i would say tanning beds are more dangerous. |
both are just as bad. Why consciously burn your skin?

Real men don't use tanning beds.

Ultraviolet light can be helpful in many instances with people inflicted with skin diseases like psoriasis, etc. Too much of anything can and will be harmful but to say that "intentionally burning your skin" is the same as going out and tanning a bit is absurd.
My opinion is that tanning beds are better since the amount of ultraviolet light is regulated and controlled. Use the standup ones that you only stay in for 10 minutes or so. :thumbsup |

No tanning bad for skin, thats why at 43 people think im around the same age as my 28 yrs old wife.
|
Only an idiot would use those, step outside for a bit each day like a normal person and get a natural tan that way... :thumbsup

Tanning in a bed is more controlled and timed.. while if ur trying to get a tan outside u can be out there for hours

I'm thinking concentrated radiation is worse for you that radiation that's not so concentrated.
BTW, cool avatar, PA... what is it, exactly? Looks like a black hole, but could be any number of phenomenon, I figure. |

Hey, Tony. Let's put it this way...
Mike South. Away from Atlanta (he must have known that tornado was coming) and holed up in a sleazy hotel in Dayton, Ohio. Spending most of his time hanging out in my strip club, eating sushi, and shooting Bukkakes. Now add Lisa Sparxxx, who's coming to town this weekend to party with Mike, Felicia Fox, and me. Things could get interesting here in the Buckeye state. I'll keep you all posted if I survive. |

I have to tan using the tanning bed because I just burn in the sun...and fake tanner is messy.
|
LOL, that's just the wrong kind of question, you just need to compare radiation dosages. But I think it's quite silly to go tanning in a salon, especially if you're a webmaster not bound to a dark, rainy place and you have plenty of time and money to get a place under the sun...
|
You usually spend a LOT less time in a tanning bed than at the beach. Usually when I go to the beach it's an all day in the sun event. If I go to a tanning bed, maybe 15 minutes.
My parents started taking us to the beach when we were infants and we had beach houses from the time I was 10 that we'd spend almost every weekend and all summer at. There are pictures of me as a child where I look like I was a black person, lol! So I figure all my damage has been done and I might as well enjoy myself at the beach whenever I can w/o having to worry about slathering SPF+++ on me. If I'm going to get skin cancer it's not going to be because of what I'm doing now. I make sure my nieces are covered always because now we know it's what happens early that makes the difference. Some of you my age might remember putting the iodine in the baby oil or using Crisco to get that really dark tan. :) |

If you're interested in such things, you can read about it in this article, I haven't read it though, just took the pic :glugglug http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/cosmos/N/Neutron+Star |
both bad.. but i feel like tanning beds might be alittle worse

Nice... which would make it impossible to be a black hole, of course (since you can't see black holes, per se) but it is the next best thing: a Pulsar. When large stars collapse, they can form black holes. When smaller stars collapse, they can form neutrons... if neutrons are spinning around really really fast (like 60 rotations a second), they're called Pulsars... and that's what that is. And they do look cool, for sure. Thanks for sharing. |
