I have been lucky lately 40$ gets me by for 2 weeks of driving.

I'm thinkin about parking my ride honestly. I paid cash for my car, but it's $300/mo for insurance, $300/mo in gas, $130/mo parking just for the fixed expenses. Then fixing the stuff that breaks, maintenance, car washes, wipers, etc, etc.. It's definitely a luxury at this point. Not that I can't afford it, but $750-1000 a month after taxes is a nice chunk of change to save..

As strange as it sounds I have two friends that haven't owned cars in over ten years. One lives in Washington DC, the other in Boston.
