Looks like a great opportunity for someone.

halfpint 03-28-2008 10:15 PM

I used to do website descriptions for a webmaster that posts on this forum but had to stop because I just did not have the time to do it for him any more, but he sure did pay me well and it was a pleasure working for him

Not trying to cause any trouble BUT I just wanted to say........this part has always annoyed me when people are seeking employees

"In that email you should include.........salary/wage requirements"

Why can't people even post a "range" of what they're willing to pay based on experience/quality/whatever?

It's like walking into a car dealership and there are no window stickers on the cars and the salesman says "how much will you give me for this car?"

This isn't just you Jon Clark....I see this all the time, companies want to hire everyone from designers to affiliate managers to programmers....and then want those people to negotiate with themselves over what they'll be paid.

Eriic 03-28-2008 10:36 PM

I got a failure notice from the post master:disgust

Eriic 03-28-2008 10:41 PM

Your have a very valid point....

I like to let people tell me what they desire and if I feel they are worth that then I will pay what they want...

Is I say I will pay x amount so then I find someone for that price, but I might have missed out on someone alot better for just a bit more..

OR, you feel like you might get someone as good as you need for less than what you were willing to offer and you don't want to leave money on the table :winkwink:

In the past when I was considering taking a job with a big company I would contact the person I was supposed to and go through all of the rigamarole of detailing my experience and qualifications and providing references only to find out the job paid peanuts and wasn't worth getting out of bed for.

I'm sure there are alot of so-called writers out there who have gone through this many many many times, since the demand for writers is pretty high these days, and then someone who is an excellent writer finds out you want someone to write gallery descriptions for 10 cents apiece.

If nothing else, a more thorough and detailed job description might help you. :2 cents:

Noone has to worry about that with us with the way I am doing it...

If the numbers they tell me from the jump exceed max budget I will tell them before I waste any more time..

Now are you interested in a job as a writer? If not please kindly exit the thread so it can get back to the point and have less distractions...?

Thanks in advance :thumbsup

Exactly...

Four years ago I had plenty of time to do something like this and I basically spent it twiddling my thumbs not knowing people needed such services. If I knew then what I know now I would have had 4 jobs on the net and been making a nice income from the beginning.

We all have thought like "Wish I knew then what I know now" just part of life and the learning experience...

If you'd prefer the employer to make the first offer in such circumstances, you can always put "negotiable" in that space on the application. :2 cents:

However, don't be surprised if they start on the low-side of their range. :winkwink:

Exactly, one person has done that already..

As far as me saying a number first, you are correct, if someone needs a number I am gonna tell them the lowest number I have been quoted by others or at the low end of my budget...:thumbsup
