Hostgator Wtf Are You Doing!!!!!
 

My son signed up with them as I have an account with them and they have been pretty good with me. He payed using paypal had his account set up uploaded his mafiagaming script dumped all the tables in the data base and had his website up and running. He had eight signed up people who were playing/testing the script and we were both modyfying it when poof the site has been suspended. My son then gets an email saying he has to send ID to prevent fraud. He gets on to Live support and all they say is sorry for the inconvience but this has to be done and he can either phone them or scan His ID and send it to them. So he does this, and also posts on thier forum saying it is bad business to let somebody pay for an account set up a website only to have it suspended for no reason and without any prior notice. They then delete the post from the forum and after sending them the ID have still not heard anything back from them regarding the account. What a fucking total waste of my sons time and my own. I can understand them wanting to prevent fraud but why wait until payment has been sent and the website installed. A total baffling way to treat customers :mad:

To be honest I have been with them for over a year with no problems and they went out thier way to help me when my website got hacked. I just cant understand why they did this to my son and deleted his forum post and still no reply back from them, I have never known them to ask for ID before and this is not even for an adult website..it just dont make any sense to me, and pissed me off because of the time both me and my son wasted installing the script and getting the site up.

halfpint...i have a few servers with them also and they never did this too me until I just setup another server with them recently. I made payment, got all the approval emails with logins, setup some sites, and then it was suspended and they wanted me to send in a scan of the ID and credit card. I was kind of pissed off actually and told them that I have other servers setup with them and that they had scanned copies of my ID and credit card on file because I had to get Jailed Shell access setup once. They still wanted me to scan and send them in again. The best thing to do is get to know one of the sales guys and whenever you have issues just work with him. That is what I do. If you just work with whoever answers online Live or your emails you pretty much get shitty service.

Also, you won't get a response from them until Monday because the department that checks and approves the ID's is the Sales department and they don't work on weekends.

Did you not read the post? This is a not an adult website and yes he does know I run an adult site with hostgator in a seperate account to his, infact all of my familly know that I run adult sites. I do not hide the fact that I run adult sites from anybody I do not lie to people about what I do. Plus the fact that he is allmost 18 years old and not a really kid. I was helping him to get the game script installed and he does not work on my adult sites.

I have two of them, be 15 years till they can do that though till then I have to settle for half trained monkeys....

If you and your son share same home address or sometimes use same computer, it's a valid reason to suspend and start ID verification process.

Hosting companies are major targets of online fraud.

We all have our own computers and I am not pissed at them wanting to validate his ID nor is he. What I am pissed at it the way they did it. They should have asked for ID before they accepted payment and let him/us setup the website and run it. It just wasted our time we spent installing the script and setting it up. If they did things the right way round we would not have a problem with it at all. He did not even get an email until after they supended the account. Now thats not the way you run a business in my mind.

That is cool :thumbsup i like the honesty about it. My family, friends and old co workers also know what i do. they even the know the site lol.

I've known people to host warez with out problems on hostgator.

They used to be ok back in the day but now gotten big and evil, stay away.

Anyone who uses them, and expects to run any kind of successful e-business is kidding themselves. I see many in mainstream who use them, and I immediately laugh, and they lose all credibility.

Hostgator gets it's servers from theplanet.com. I'm actually thinking about switching to the planet. I'm not happy with my caro server. It only serves files to me at 200 KB/s. I can upload faster than that from my home connection. lol. They got some horrible bandwidth. I was getting 1200 KB/s from hostgator at least.
