HD Video Screen Capture Question
I've run into a bit of a problem and need some help. I like to pick my own screen shot from all of my videos to use as the thumbnail on my site. So when I get my edited videos from my editor I usually just use Windows Movie Maker to turn a screen shot into a jpg. Well...I've run into problems viewing the videos when they're HD. Usually I can see some of the footage, but this time I can't see any.
Anyone know what I can do or use to grab a screen shot from my HD videos? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! xo j |
"HD" can mean so many things. Is it raw HDV or AVCHD or is it already encoded in Divx HD or WMV HD? I know with my raw AVCHD I have to use Ulead Video Studio (Yuk!) to grab my stills, but they look great for video grabs. I skipped HDV, so don't know what to use, but I'd suspect Premiere Pro?

It's already edited and encoded...WMV HD.

Hey doll...how ya been? LTNS.
if you have Vegas Video you can open it with that regardless of the format you can do it in windows media player too By doing the following: * Open Window Media Player * Then go to Tools | Options * In Options, select the Performance Tab * Way below you click on the Advanced Button * Uncheck “Use Overlays’ * Click Ok * And you are ready. now use either CTRL-I or print screen to get the capture, CTRL-I will open a save as dialogue box. |
http://www.frame-shots.com/ well worth the 30.00 :2 cents:

Hey girl great seeing you at the Forum :)
A nice little progam I like to use for screen shots is Frame Shots http://frame-shots.com/ If you have any of the major NLE editor programs (Premiere Pro, Avid, FCP, Vegas) you can also take screen grabs but the process is usually a bit longer. Hope that helps |
Like the others said, I also recommend Frame-Shots. Otherwise you can open it up in any editing app that can accept WMV files and do each screen shot manually.

If you can, take them directly from the HDV.
This is the quality you can get if you take the screencaps from the HDV. |
I extract stills right from the HDV video then de-interlace them so they are sharp at 1920x1080

It's horribly tedious and boring, but the quality is worth it. Here's another example and there's more here. Another example and a few more. They're pretty good for screencaps.:thumbsup |

Goto Tools/batch mode make sure you set the size you want the ss to be before you go in that. You can import videos in bulk and set them to capture screen shots. VERY handy and very fast. |
