who has the best curveball in baseball?

Who do you think does?

spunkmister 04-10-2008 10:26 AM

Barry Zito used to have a wicked one,....but looks like his career hasnt gone so well after leaving the A's

SykkBoy 04-10-2008 10:27 AM

Greg Maddux has a pretty good one
Agreed, Barry Zito, back in the day and a nasty curveball

Maddux with a curveball? More like an 85 mph fastball that he can move around the plate however the fuck he wants lol. Hell of a changeup as well.

Zito had a crazy one, not so much anymore it seems.

Brother Bilo 04-10-2008 10:47 AM

That's about the only pitch Zito can still throw, just can't always locate it anymore. Watching the Mariners game the other night, Bedard has a wicked duece.

Hamels has a decent one too.

madm1k3 04-10-2008 11:21 AM

Johan Santana has a deadly curve when he can throw it for strikes, unfortunatley he ony does that every other game.

my boy Rich Hill has a nasty 12-6 when he's in the zone. he's pitching tonight so hopefully he gets some Pirates swinging on it.

Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers. Currently in the minors and will be brought up in June/July for the stretch run. Will be the Dodgers 5th starter. Wicked 12-6 curve that both Russell Martin and Joe Torre claim is the best they have ever seen. Virtually unhittable and I believe he only gave up one earned run all of spring training.

sicone 04-10-2008 01:42 PM

Josh Beckett and Kerry Wood both have some nasty action on the curve

I hate the 12-6 curve.

I've heard a lot about him. I want to see him pitch.

No doubt.

Josh Beckett and Justin Verlander started this season getting rocked. So I don't know.

Snake Doctor 04-10-2008 08:35 PM

Can't have a discussion about the best curveball without mentioning Darryl Kile...may he R.I.P. :(

You could break your ankles trying to hit that thing, it was wicked.

I was hoping the Marlins would be able to get him in a trade for Willis or Cabrera this past offseason, he's very highly rated.

Danger Mouse 04-10-2008 09:19 PM

Roy Halladay, not even close

As a pained Giants fan, I can say it isn't Zito's control. It's his velocity. I can hit a 83 MPH fastball. So can everyone in the majors.

Mutt 04-10-2008 10:05 PM

Halladay - he's pitched in relative obscurity in Toronto his entire career.

Hill does have a nice curve when it's working. Wasn't tonight but Lieber bailed him out :)

I couldn't find the video but there's a pitching coach in Florida who teaches a way of throwing without any windup and his students have the sickest curveball I've ever seen, it literally breaks about 6 feet. Serious.
