I Am Getting A Dog!!!

Okay for about a month now I have been talking about getting a dog. I put my name on the list for a Weimaraner puppy and was waiting for him to be born. But everyday I would think about all the dogs out there that don't have homes and would cry, and anyone who knows me I really would cry about it. Those dogs don't understand why they are there and they don't understand why they were left there. Some sit waiting everyday hoping their owners will come back and they don't, okay I am crying again. haha

Well after the Phoenix show I fell in love with Jaxon and Dex and Al, but Jaxon is the man. haha Jaxon was the beautiful German Shepard walking around the show and Al and Dex are his owners. Jaxon dog stole my heart. I grew up with a German Shepard so when I got home I decided to get on a list for a German Shepard instead. I starting looking around for male German Shepard puppy's and came across a story about a bitch, a real fucking cunt not a female dog, who stole her ex-husbands dog and took it to the pound, well that is what the cunt said. They can't find the husband who owned the dog because apparently the bitch took this dog from another state so he couldn't find her, which state we don?t know. I swear if I ever get my hands on that cunt I will beat her until every knuckle on both my hands are broken. Anyway, the dog is a female German Shepard who is very scared. I guess the cunt didn't take care of her and sorta took out her hatred for her ex on the dog. I sat up last night balling about the dog. I couldn't stop thinking about poor little Sheba, that is her name, sitting there waiting for her Daddy who is never coming to get her. So I called today and talked for an hour with the lady who is fostering Sheba. I pick up Sheba tomorrow. She is 5 years old, and I just can't wait to give her all the love she is so waiting to have. I know she is not the 120 pound male German Shepard I wanted to get but she is the one my heart wants to get. I feel great!

Here are some pictures of Jaxon, the lover who stole my heart and helped me to find Sheba, and some pictures of Sheba.

Jaxon my Goddoggie:

Sheba my new daughter:

http://lorynslounge.com/sheba1.jpg

This is the story that was in Sheba's ad.

Sheba is a pretty girl, but she is so scared. This 5 year old girl is so sweet and pretty you wonder why she was dumped at the shelter (nasty divorce). Sheba is ok with other dogs, is crate trained and housebroken. Sheba is loving and affectionate, but because she is so scared, we recommend that she not been around children younger then teenage. With a calm, loving home, this girl will blossom again to be a wonderful companion. Sheba is healthy, has all her shots and a microchip. Sheba is now in a foster home.

I am going to work with her and get her to be a brave little solider for Mommie. I know it is going to take a lot of time and patients but I have all the time in the world for her. We are going to doggie school and everything. I am so excited I can't wait to build up her confidence and give her security again in this world. I am bummed about not getting a puppy but nothing compares to the feeling of helping this baby girl!

Now the only question I have is I do not like her name. Does anyone have any suggestions for names that sound like the word Sheba? Maybe a German word that sounds like Sheba or something like that but means something cool?

I don't see you as violent, more like you have a righteous rage. And I don't care if you are German as long as you don't care that I am a half-breed Jew.:winkwink:

The dog in my avatar is available for adoption. I just got back from the kennel where the rescue I work with houses their dogs. I have one foster German shepherd living at my house right now. He has red fur all over his head and refuses to leave my side. He is a total teddy bear who is ready to give love 24/7.

Congrats on being a good person and saving a life instead of being trendy person and buying a puppy from a shithead toothless breeder or pet store. I have no doubt you are already seeing and feeling the rewards.:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:

She is so cute and looks so happy. I love her name.

I can't think of a name for Sheba. I don't like that name Sheba and for some reason it makes me feel like all the bad that happened to her was with that name the cunt called her. I would love to think of something else that would be close to Sheba sounding but is cooler and tougher. I thought of Sophia like Sophia Loren but for some reason it?s not clicking.

I love people name for animals. I have two kitty?s one named Ralph and the other Calvin so if I could think of a girl name that would match with those types of names I would be in heaven and I think Sheba would like it better too. Isn?t Sheba a cat food brand? haha

I wouldn't worry about that too much. It doesn't take long for a puppy to turn into a full fledged adult! I'm always amazed at the huge waiting list at shelters for puppies when there are perfectly fine adult dogs waiting for a home.

Whatever you do, don't give the dog a human name! I see too many human dog names these days! My cousin just named her new puppy "Bill". Yikes! This is because everyone is giving dogs human attributes. They call it "anthropomorphism." And this partly why dogs end up in the shelter in the first place. I'd stick to one or two syllable names, preferably one if you can. It's just easier to get your dog's attention that way.

Go through some of your favorite movies and look up the character names. Use a last name. If you like Star Wars, plenty of good names to be found there. How about "Boba" or "Fett." :)

I was thinking about giving her a fun name like that too. I will never take her back to the pound though so no matter what name she gets she will be with me, but Sheba is a cat foods name. I think I will go through all my favorite movies which are Pulp Fiction, God Father, Good Fellas, Boon Dock Saints etc..... I just want something that will put her bad past in the past and a name that will have confidence to it.

Good idea. Even "Boon" or "Boon Dock" would make a great name. You don't have to find a name that rhymes with Sheba. In this case I think it would be great to create an entirely different name for the dog. I bet that dog is associating "Sheba" with bad things due to this dog's past. Who knows how terribly this dog was treated by this woman while the couple was still living together. If she's capable of doing something so extreme like that, you know...

I personally wouldn't suggest "Sophia." Think about it. For the rest of this dog's life, when you call her, you're going to have to call out "So-phee-ah." Dogs learn and understand one or two syllable words much better. That is why most universal dog training commands are just one syllable cues (come, sit, stay, down, watch, etc).

True! Okay back to the drawing board. I will search around until something sticks out and keep it to at least two syllables and try for a name with just one syllable.

I am so excited and have so much energy I am over thinking it, I have to put it out of my head and let the name come to me, or if someone here tosses one out that fits! hehe

Your post made my day Loryn! Nice to know that there are nice people out there that care. I got 2 kittens from the pound 1 year ago. Both were dumped, one of them was very scared in the beginning but he's become very affectionate! All the best with "Sheba", yes that is a cat food brand. Hope you come up with a nice name.

If I remember correctly, you like elephants? Check out this link: http://www.petnamezone.com/elephant-pet-names.html

Not sure if you like it or not, but it's a shot :)

Good for you. There are several purebred dogs I'd like to have but guilt would never let me buy a dog.

In February, my friend who runs the shelter here called and said she had some 5 week old puppies she needed to place. An older gentleman had found the momma dog half starved in the woods at a hunting club he belonged to and he couldn't bare to leave her there. He brought her home and discovered she was pregnant. Two weeks later he had a stroke and died and his wife brought the momma and puppies in because she couldn't care for them. A local hunter wanted the momma, but not the 7 puppies.

I told my friend "NO DAMN WAY" and then she showed up at my house with the runt and told me she needed me to "babysit" for a few hours. She called at 10:00 that night and said, "Well, I guess I'll come pick her up now..." What a bitch. :1orglaugh

She's so sweet. Destructive, but sweet.

Thank you very much! I am so excited I can't wait to go to bed so I can wake up and be that much closer to picking her up! Poor little girl doesn't even know she is going to a home yet. She is sitting in her little dog run probably bored and sad. She has no idea that her life is about to change and become so amazing she won't know what to do with herself. Now I am crying again. I swear this dog has brought tears to my eyes so much and I haven't even met her face to face yet!

Missy 04-12-2008 11:10 PM

Good for you, Loryn! I know you had your heart set on getting a puppy, but I think you made the right decision. Animals in need make the best and most loyal friends. And when your heart falls in love with an animal, well... you and I both know that there's not a damn thing you can do to change that.

As you know, all of my babies are rescue animals. The funny thing about rescues is that we take them in thinking that they need us, but more often than not, it's US that needs them. I couldn't do without any of my babies, and I know you're exactly the same way.

As for names, I think Sophia is cute, but if it's too long, you could always go with Sophie. But I think you should wait until you get her home, get to know her personality a bit, and then pick out one of her best characteristics. Then look up names that mean that characteristic, maybe even something from Greek mythology or a goddess name. Something that means "strength" or "loyalty" or "playful" or whatever it is about her personality that stands out to you the most. And when you find the right name, she'll let you know.

Congrats on the new addition to your family! I know you two are going to be great friends and she will be forever loved. And be sure to post pics and her new name once she's made her final decision :thumbsup
