Windows to Flash Video Format

I have a commercial project from which I need to be able to upload videos and have them encoded into flash file. Should this be done on my desktop then upload or can this be done server side? I would prefer a server side application.

Links are welcome and thanks in advance.

You can use FFmpeg, but it needs a patch in order to do WMV server side.

If you care about the best quality I would recommend a desktop app that supports the ON2 VP6 codec where you can fine tune the controls like Sorenson Squeeze or Flix Pro. Since I am an original content creator I have never server side apps but I suppose that they have their use if you already have hundreds or thousands of pre-existing files already on the server that you want to convert and you are willing to live with the limitattions of the server side freeware apps. It's not quite the same as using the very best apps and codecs and fine tuning them to get the very best quality possible however.

I bought this a few days ago: http://www.on2.com/ It's a very professional solution.

Well, my usual disclaimer is that when starting with a compressed WMV file (rather than the DV or HDV footage from original source tapes which you may not have access to) you will always be starting out with a compressed file with who knows what bitrate which may or may not look all that great to begin with.

But you can try Sorenson Squeeze or Flix Pro and use the On2 VP6 codec. Or VideoCharge may work for you if you want a more inexpensive solution. If the original file isn't all that hi-res though you may be even able to get away with the free server side apps like that FFmpeg.

Not as good as Sorenson, but surprising results once you configure properly:

On the Mac side, you can also use the program Episode,http://www.flip4mac.com/episode.htm

It can handle most any conversion, uses watch folders, batching etc... not cheap though. It's around 995.00 for the version you would need to do flash. They also offer a server solution, so you can use multiple macs at once.

Yea.. most of my stuff is compressed around 2k..I guess I could re-cut it( which on the to do list) but for now..

It would be nice.. just to dump.. all my video.. re-encode them to flash..

normally I enjoy in to flash right out permeire pro. .but I have files from a couple of years ago before I did that..

You using anything beyond SVN-9983? I've had sketchy support with newer stuff.

Hi, I am in the process this week of working out the details with a third party service who will do this all for you pretty cheaply. If you reach out to me this week I can get you set up as an early adopter. The process will be really easy. They can pull the content from wherever it resides, encode it into any format you wish or even multiple formats and dump it back to your location or to a Net storage facility to be served off a CDN Network.

The entire interface is Web Based and has numerous add on features such as watermarking Ad insertion , etc.

I am hoping to make a splash with this product at WebMaster East in May, but the offering is ready to go today.

mEncoder will work well on the server. You can have a programmer do up a PHP script for you to handle this pretty easy.
