I understand Microsoft Outlook without WinXP+SP2 won't work either.

what's the alternatives ? thunderbird ?

Did you read the entire article? The last part mentions that Microsoft suggests folks begin using their newer email program, Windows Live Mail, which is the newer version of 'Outlook'.

yea sure I tried it.
Windows Live sucks on so many levels I don't know where to begin, it's like it's whole existence is to sale you MSN Messenger , i don't want to even go in to that.
i'm thinking either switching to Microsoft Outlook 2007 (that's the latest,right ?) or thunderbird.
the only problem with thunderbird is that I can't find a reasonable way to export it folders to any software of microsoft - either it's MS outlook or outlook express - and I do a lot of achieving
