I'm thinking of moving to Bangkok and I already have several people offering me apartments. My question is seeing that porn is illegal in Thailand and many ISP's are blocked how do you keep your biz moving.

I was talking to some Thai peeps on a message board and one person suggested that I use offshore hosting and no .com sites but I'm not sure if they really knew what they were talking about.

You could use a vpn and keep your business to yourself. I know that's what some people living over there do.

get web hosting in USA/EU for your sites.

use a vpn account to encrypt all of your web traffic out of the country. An example of this is to use steganos.com services as their servers are located in Germany. This will bypass all filtering Thailand attempts to implement and will ensure you are not detected when dealing with porn.

You -> encrypted traffic -> Thailand ISP filters -> Steganos servers (Germany) -> Destination address and it works the same way coming back to you.

What is the rent and living expenses like there?

So far the best deal I have is a guy offering me a studio at $205 a month if I sign a 12 month lease. The place has two pools and a gym with free Internet but I think it's dialup or at least something slower than what I have. He mentioned that I could get an upgrade for my Internet but there would be a charge. This is on the beach in Pattaya

I know people who went to Thailand to setup software companies (basic idea was that they will work remote to US clients)...first few months it goes fine, but then they find a Thai girl friend, thai girl friend finds them coke, they get few other chicks....end of the day they are having sex or on high 24 hours a day and the work they were suppose to do for their US client never get done.

I have to agree. I've only smoked weed twice in my life and the second time it was at a coworkers house. After we smoked he was like, by the way we laced that with pcp. That's when I realised that all drug user where born idiots. I don't have a problem with people that smoke weed because to me they are just strong cigarettes with a little extra kick but I hate drugs and I don't see hanging out with anyone like that.

It sounds cold but if I was involved with a girl and found out she was doing drugs I would say "sorry but I can't be with you or even be friends with you" The idea of being friends with someone that is a regular drug user really really turns me off. I don't even like giving money to a girl if I know she's going to use it on drugs.

I wouldn't advice you going to Thailand, the place sucks. I'm sure you wouldn't like it there, especially Pattaya.

205$ a month even in Pattaya sounds like a shithole, have you seen the pictures of that place? Free internet wont work, and it is not sure if you can make phone line and DSL in the building. Its many questions in your story, I live in that area, hit me up on icq if you need a help/advise.

Yes the room in question has everything you are looking for. It is close to the beach and to transport (bus and taxi). It also has the benefit of an existing wireless internet connection ( a telephone line with ADSL can also be connected within a week in this building). The building has two swimming pools, a gym and a number of bars,shops, restauarants and other services on the ground floor.

If you wanted to sign a six month contract the rent would be 7000 baht a month ($220 approx). For a years contract I would be willing to reduce this monthly rent to 6500 baht ($205 approx).

I also have a studio room available to rent in the building View Talay 1. This is slightly closer to the beach and transport etc. It is on the 11th floor and has the benefit of a European style kitchen. The monthly rental on this apartment is 9000 baht a month ($280 approx). As with the previous apartment, an internet connection would pose no problems whatsoever. Unfortuately as this room is currently occupied until the end of this week I have no photographs to send to you. If you are interested in this room, I will of course send you some upon request.

Before you move there, you may want to take a look at what happens to people when they are arrested for something like that. If its illegal, and they go as far as to filter it, why would you put yourself in that. To save a few bucks? If thats the only reason, find another location. Plenty of them.

There seem to be a lot of people living there that are running an adult biz so I don't think it's something they really enforce.

just dont PRODUCE porn in thailand and you will be fine. you will want a VPN anyways because i just wouldn't trust the people there to not sniff traffic for passwords and other information in general.

using a vpn is easy cheesy. you can pay for one $20/month or just run your own on your servers.

of course you will have off shore hosting, who the fuck wants to have servers hosted inside thailand?? do you like slow speeds and crashing servers because of the 100F heat?

I would always be very concerned about STDs in Thailand. Even if you find a girlfriend who's not a hooker, you never know if she is not another fucked up girl having sex with strangers for $ when you won't pay her everything. I recently read that Thailand is the country with the highest STD rate world wide.

Like others have said, make sure you have a VPN connection.

I lived in Thailand for 6 years. It's a great place to live and perfectly safe if you know how to handle yourself. That said, there are lots of charlie big times that have fallen as a result of their non discrete behaviors.

Be discrete, stay prudent and you will have an amazing time!

Just as other people have stated here on this thread... 1) don't tell anyone what you do! 2) Do not PRODUCE porn or mess with drugs 3) get a vpn solution ... 4) have a nice bundle of cash for paying out bribes if you do get busted lol... but seriously its a great place & lots of fun... I always stay at the LK Metropole in Pattaya, sweet spot
