Movie studios now uploading full scenes to free ad based web models (very cool site)

This is very cool.

http://www.hulu.com/

I watched that episode of the office on Wednesday night. Amazing how fast they're taking it to web.

Movies too. The quality is great. The only thing you you have to do to watch full movies is give an email. The episodes of tv require nothing.

Owned by NBC and News Corp.

We hope to provide you with the web's most comprehensive selection from more than 50 content providers including FOX, NBC, MGM, Sony Pictures Television, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, and more to deliver premium programming across all genres and formats, television shows, feature films, and clips. Hulu also offers full-length feature films like The Usual Suspects, Ice Age, Sideways, and The Big Lebowski as well as clips from films such as Napoleon Dynamite, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Devil Wears Prada and many more. Do they show the adverts before you watch the film or if its a full length are they putting the ads in intervals like they do on the TV. I cant watch them over here in the UK so cant really see how they are placing the ads

for the tv commercials its a small maybe 8 second commercial before. thats it. then the full 22 minute episode. no commercials in between.

havent regged yet to watch full movies but will do it this weekend.

why don't you just proxy in and watch them? are they blocking uk ips or something?

Beanz 05-02-2008 05:06 PM

Yeah, this is a cool site, and as far as I can tell there is a little something at the start of each clip. To watch the movies, you have to have a membership (which is free). All in all seems to be a good site.

I dont know it comes up with this when I try and watch a movie

"For now, Hulu is a U.S. service only. That said, our intention is to make Hulu's growing content lineup available worldwide. This requires clearing the rights for each show or film in each specific geography and will take time. We're encouraged by how many content providers have already been working along these lines so that their programs can be available over the Internet to a much larger, global audience. The Hulu team is committed to making great programming available across the globe."

I hate that site. I'm always ending up watching The Office reruns when I should be working. Bastards.

You can only access the videos if you're in the US.

Btw, how do they make money off this?

WiredGuy 05-02-2008 05:23 PM

As previously said, the service is for US based IP's only. So how does the service make money?

I was thinking these kind of tube sites are already one step ahead of the adult tube sites and I wonder how long it will be before adult tube sites catch on and start doing the same thing, by not selling subscriptions and instead selling ads within the video content would mean they would not have to have many or no affliates at all. They would only have to consider bandwith costs if they already have a ton of content to start it off then just shoot more as and when they require it.

Vpn is your friend

seeric 05-03-2008 12:59 AM

these type of sites are going to mob up on the web in no time, yes, more than they are now.

rupert murdoch himself has said that people are immunized to paying for content anymore.

we can all thank youtube mostly for devaluing content in the mind of the web surfer.

I love Hulu and Veoh...VC capital pouring in too but on alot of mainstreamers are trashing them pretty hard for a failed launch and a failed profit model but they have good partnerships with their providers. porn should really take note of the syndication model they have with the studios.

people also trashed the two kids that started yahoo, the ones that started excite, and the people who started tgp and mgp too.

the only people i wanna shove a hot poker up their ass are the assholes that steal content straight out.

you don't give back to the ones who made it, well then i'm up your ass, otherwise, i am all for free enterprise.

:thumbsup
