looking for a host for an egg drop server

i need to price out the cost of a egg drop server for bit torrent distribution

low bandwidth
large hard drives

will be hosting tv shows (350 mb) but only making pieces available if the swarm does not have it available (super seeding)

needs lots of hard drive space but not a lot of bandwidth.

ISPRIME has a great network and great servers. Id look into them.

Also if you need a nice torrent domain name I have one for sale.

I must be slow, but how does one make a profit from an operation like that? Sounds like a lot of heat/risk, with somewhat limited reward...

torrent disribution is done through a irc bot?

the egg drop termonology was "borrowed" from irc

it a small apache module that turns the web server into a seeder to a swarm.

the seeder only provides missing pieces keeping the swarm continuely active without actually serving all the bandwidth.

it is similar to egg drop for irc in that it keeps the swarm alive, looks like a regular user, but only responds to certain request (a piece that is not in the swarm)
basically it guarrentees 100% piece distribution.

sounds really legit

actually it more legit than hosting a stream tube site
because i am never giving anyone a working copy of the file
i am only giving missing pieces
the rest of the swarm completes the files

so the make available ruling which is currently causing so many problems should not apply

anyway it for a fair use defence group.

So i would want to get sued so that the legal precedent can be set.

The Judge 05-04-2008 04:26 PM

how can you make a buck from that?

like any other torrent site from advertising

the key is a differentiated advantage, in this case faster speeds and, availability of harder to find shows.

a steve where is the love

just because i don't belong to the cult of steve
and agree with every ubsurd thing you say.

how goes your uphill battle in trying to convince the government to rewrite the dmca
take out the safe harbour provision they put in specifically to protect fair use (ie my right to take your video, layer in a parody sound track, "torrents killed the pornstar" and distribute it) just because your to lazy to make fill out a one page take down request.

unga bunga

yup

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2008/0...ory-dvrs-cloud

legal precedent that wanted to be set

they actually set two

1. defining how to determine if an action is fair use (which set the rules for all other fair uses -- backup/recovery, format shifting to be equally extended)
2. the actual precedent on time shifting being valid in a cloud.

considering this ruling was upheld by the supreme court.
