Blogging opinion needed
Just started yet another new blog and 1 thing I always have a problem with is how many posts I should allow on the front page.
Some of my blogs have 8 some have 12 some 20. What is in your opinion best? Mainly for SE advantages. Should there be a difference if you update often? |
I like 1-3 because you have a new page for each one and less for the surfer to look at.

I like to have enough posts on the first page to even out with what's on the side bars.

Ah ok I never do sites like that. It is a waste to me. I came from mainstream though so maybe it is different here. I will see soon. I used about 20-30 lines per page before I did an archive.
|
Most of mine have 5-7 posts on the front page. I like to make the surfer click. He/She clicks to move around inside my content, then that leads to them clicking ads. I like a click-y site over one where they can just sit, zone out and scroll for a while.
I also use a pagination plugin (sometimes at the top of the posts and sometimes at the bottom) so that it leads them deeper into the archives. |

Empty space sucks ass |
yeh I like about 5 posts, to even out the side bars, if mine get longer, I like to another entry or so
|
5 posts, depending how long they are
|
I tend to have about between six or ten depending on the length of the design. I want people to see it and think 'wow, this gets updated' but not give them too much all in one shot. Plus, I like having a bunch of text on a page at any one time.

good thread. thanks to all posters.
