What's a REAL good source for SE keywords?

Overture was great because you had real numbers even though the phrases weren't necessarily exact. But they haven't updated in a long time.

Google adwords is nice since they list real phrases. But no numbers and are actually "grouped" into a range... no adult words anymore... and it seems to be fucked up when it comes to the language setting.. For example, I was looking at one phrase and got a listing of 30+ when set to English-Canada, but then when changing it to English-US or English-All, I got basically no results.. English-All should have still had all those phrases.

So what the hell is actually usefull and up to date out there?

sad to see a business thread here with no reply :(
When Google AdWords dropped adult keyword, the best source i think now is Keyword Discovery

My 2 cents....

Do a search in Google for the number of title tags with a particular kw or kw phrase by:

title: "big boobies" or [big boobies] or big boobies

"" for in that order anywhere in the title tag
[] for that exactly
nothing for in any order anywhere in title tag

***This is an "assumption" method, but you can assume that since the title tag is so key in SEO, that the searches that return the most results are getting the best results.

For mainstream, since they don't include adult --> What I like to do is use Google Suggest...http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

You start typing, and Google "suggests" what keyword/kw phrase you're putting in.

One may assume that particular kw/kw phrase is searched often is Google knows it well enough to suggest it.

Wordze's paid service is actually decent.. It can lookup/return long tail keyword phrases. Just x-reference the phrase or broken phrase in google trends to see if it's legit.

If you find something better, please let me know :)

I am totally confused as to why you say you cant use adwords in google to do it - I just went in and created an adult campaign - put in the general theme and it returned hundreds of keyword phrase suggestions (all adult terms) and gave me the average daily search volume - as well as once I selected a bunch of them and put a cost on the keywords - told me how much traffic to really expect daily from whatever geographic region I inputted

You must be special... Try and use the keyword tool with a phrase like "big tits".. Do you get any results with the word "tits" in it? I don't.. How about "free porn".. do you get any results with the word "porn" in it? I don't... They cut a bunch of adult words out of the results making it worthless for a lot of porn stuff.

Google's keyword tool is great for adwords, just not so great for seo. It helps and is a great starting point, but the tool returns words that you can normally safely bid on. It doesn't do very well trying to research long tail keyword phrases which several other tools are much better at.

Did you use this google account for mainstream adwords/keywords or adult? Don't mix them, one account for one - one for the other.

I had a look at keywordspy.com but I think that's only really usefull if you're running PPC campaigns.. You CAN get lists of keywords out of it but it's tied to other domains. I didn't do the paid signup so maybe there's better options if you're a full member.

I haven't actually used the account for at least a year other than the keyword tool... I'd need to double check but I'm pretty sure when I did use it, it was all adult stuff... Both tools (public and not) give me the same results.

TheDoc 05-09-2008 10:26 AM

Hey Tempest, I see what you are talking about now.... Tits and porn won't return, but boobs, titty, tity, fuck, fucking, even teen boobs.

Maybe it's a google fuckup they should know about?

Tempest 05-09-2008 10:29 AM

There's others I've been running accross as well... Not sure what it is but between that and the language/region thing, it's become pretty useless for me...

I guess Im seeing something totally different - although I sure wouldnt want a keyword generator to give me words that have the original phrase in it - I would want the long tailed synonyms
I get average 100 results for both of those that you mentioned

TheDoc - the account I have I use for both and have never had a problem with either mainstream or adult - Ive been mixing campaigns for both since AdWords first appeared years ago

I ran adult ads for a good while, then finally I moved into mainstream. When the account was shared the quality score on the mainstream ads was horrible. Once I broke the mainstream ads off the quality score dropped to 5-10 cents, making my ad costs drop in half.

The same thing happened in my Dads adwords account too. Once he broke his local mainstream ads off, the quality score was perfect.

It wasn't always like this, but about .... maybe 2 years ago, it made a huge difference, at least on my accounts.
