Dreamweaver on Vista Premium problem

have new Acer laptop with Vista Premium, have been trying to make Dreamweaver CS3 and/or Dreamweaver 8 for a couple of days.

It hangs on the startup screen on "Initializing Files", tried all the solutions I could find on google, anyone had the same problem and how did you fix it?

notoldschool 05-11-2008 09:55 AM

Got a box with Vista on it and had nothing but problems with all kinds of software. Find a copy of XP and use it.

TheSenator 05-11-2008 10:04 AM

If you are using a stolen copy it will not work.

Jace 05-11-2008 10:30 AM

yup, I had the same problem with my legit copy, one of the reasons I reverted back to xp

NaughtyRob 05-11-2008 10:52 AM

Its why I am still on XP.

I'm travelling, so I downloaded the trial until I get back home, so that can't be the problem

Hey, I have the answer !

I can actually make a useful post for once :)

What you need to do, is to be logged into vista on an admin account...
Then, RIGHT CLICK the .exe file, and choose the second option available... RUN AS ADMIN...

You should find that it then installs straight away :)

Lemme know if this works :)

Yup that should do it. People anything that doesnt work in Vista right do this first. Its 90% of the problems that people have. Have cs3 dreamweaver and it works just fine on vista.

Well when I installed the 8 copy I did the above and it worked fine...

In other words Im running CS3 and DW8 on the same PC at the same time with NO PROBLEMS at all, under VISTA ! :thumbsup

getting it installed is no problem, it's during the launch after the installations that it hangs, also tried the run as admin, but didn't fix the problem, also tried to run it in XP comptability mode, doesn't work either

which version of vista are you using, seems to be happening with Premium and especially on Acer computers

CurrentlySober 05-11-2008 03:16 PM

Im using Vista Home, But my question is, WHEN YOU ORIGIONALLY INSTALLED IT... Did you do the install itself on an admin account choosing run as admin, as described above?

If not then that may be why it doesn't run correctly now?

farkedup 05-11-2008 03:49 PM

you think its a bitch to get it to work in Vista? I'm running ubuntu ;) couldn't get CS or either MX version to work just right using wine so I ended up going all the way back to dreamweaver 8 which is now working perfectly.

MX2004 installed great and is somewhat usable but when I search directories it crashes when I try to open from the search list... so dreamweaver 8 it is LOL I'll just have to use something like screem for some other things.

zend studio won't work in my 64 bit install either BTW and thats one of the best PHP setups you can get.

You think I dont use dreamweaver? I use it about 3 hours a day. Trust me it works fine and dandy on Vista.

4 gig, is a new laptop

SilentKnight 05-11-2008 06:22 PM

We tried running Dreamweaver8 on Vista and likewise it crapped.

We went back to Dreamweaver2004 and it runs fine.

Running DW8 as 'admin' didn't solve the problem here. The only solution we found was to go retro.

going to give that a try

besides Dreamweaver, I only ever used Frontpage (wayback and only until I discovered DW) and I mostly use basic functions, so I thought I would be safe and started installing a range of other editors and damn: none have the ease of use of DW, maybe it's what I'm used to, but the easy access to properties, switch code/WYSIWYG, site manager, ftp, ... is so much better in DW.

FOUND the problem: Acer E-Data Security Management

uninstall it and Dreamweaver works
