Man flies cross country on toilet and sues

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/usa_airline_toilet_dc

People like this should be lined up and publically executed.

Sly 05-12-2008 07:56 PM

I read about this earlier... that sounds completely bizarre. If it's true, that's crazy. I really don't see how they could take on extra passengers though...

Shoehorn! 05-12-2008 07:59 PM

What an asshole. I hope the airline fights him and he loses.

Sly 05-12-2008 08:00 PM

Are we all reading the same article? He was forced to fly in the bathroom? I'm sure that is an exaggeration... but come on... that makes him an asshole?

GAMEFINEST 05-12-2008 08:01 PM

loll....what an idiot

munki 05-12-2008 08:02 PM

Bizarre much?

Sansa 05-12-2008 08:04 PM

Well that's a bizarre lawsuit but he's probably in the right. Was his "extreme humiliation" worth $2M? Most likely not.

Miss Munki 05-12-2008 08:13 PM

That's fucked up:disgust

That's what I was thinking. If he made the whole story up it would fall apart pretty quick.

If he paid for a ticket and was allowed to board the plane when there was no seat available then the airline fucked up big time and should compensate him.

wootpr0n 05-13-2008 12:33 AM

Maybe it was a toilet of mass destruction.

No, seriously, I'm guessing that he didn't have a ticket for the flight but he needed to fly anyways.

spunkmaster 05-13-2008 12:37 AM

Read the article before posting so you don't sound like an idiot !

Ok............:warning

Ron Bennett 05-13-2008 12:58 AM

Relax ... when it's all done, he'll probably just get a free voucher for a future flight plus maybe a couple of discount coupons.

Ron

could be , it could also be that he paid full price for a ticket after they promised him a seat , they then took the seat back from him mid-flight forcing him to sit in the bathroom.

So he went to a lawyer to sue and rightly so , he was promised a seat , and didnt get it. at the very least they owe him a plane ticket.

Now of course a lawyer is going to say " hey you need to be compensated for all the other people who have been ripped off"

theres lots of ways to look at it i suppose. $2 million is alot , but to the company its peanuts. so it would be like suing you for $1

Jace 05-13-2008 01:14 AM

i don't think that is a $2mil suit, but he definitely at least deserves free jetblue for a long ass while

i can't belive the jump seat was available and they mad him sit in the toilet, hahahaha

Bdiddy 05-13-2008 01:22 AM

If this is true, then the airline is in WAY more trouble with the FAA then some money lawsuit. It says clearly in the regs all passengers must have a seat with a seatbelt.

If true, Jetblue is in deep shit. Sounds liek BS to me

fallenmuffin 05-13-2008 01:26 AM

That's insane and some of the replies in this thread are insane.

He could of let him sit in the jump seat but he forced him to hold up in the tiny toilet. That's not safe and probably against company policy. I've been told to get out of the bathroom and take my seat when turbulence was expected.

He should win. If they put me in the bathroom I'd be like wtf too... Another reason jetBlue sucks donkey balls.

joshll 05-13-2008 01:30 AM

I doubt that a pilot would willingly allow a toilet to take the place of a passenger seat...Pilots are generally pretty fucking clever..

Nice to know that you will sit in the toilet if we don't have space for you. :winkwink:

I would sue them for as much as I could get, they fucked up and airlines that carry people around need to be made to be more responsible. They were flying in turbulence with a passenger sitting on the toilet without a seat belt.

GrouchyAdmin 05-13-2008 02:03 AM

Let's see - they bent the rules so he could get on this flight, and now he's suing because he didn't get the seat he wanted. At least one person's getting fired over this, and it's not this prick.

martinsc 05-13-2008 07:21 AM

that's just so damn bizzare....

Kevsh 05-13-2008 08:45 AM

Okay, I'm not reading the whole thing ... so when did he find out he had to sit on the toilet?

If before flight, and he boarded anyhow, then he's a pylon with a much weaker case.
If during flight, he simply should have refused citing regulations (that are surely public knowledge) against it ... and then the lawsuit is probably his, though $2M is ludicrous.

Adam_OC3 05-13-2008 08:56 AM

They would have had to land the plane before I got out of my seat to sit in the bathroom. I don't know about 2mil but he should get something.

It is pretty funny though :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Kimmykim 05-13-2008 09:00 AM

Doesn't ring true. Airlines can't give passengers the jump seat, and crew sit in them all the time. One of my best friends works for United, and if she decided halfway across the Atlantic that she didn't feel like sitting in the jump seat to the destination, it wouldn't matter.

she offered a regular seat to the guy, the stewardess was not working , she was just flying as a regular passenger, she decided to give up her seat and take the jump seat instead because she is an employee and can take the jump seat.

halfway thru the flight she wanted her comfy seat back. thus forcing the man to get up , he then suggested he could use the jump seat , they told him no he couldnt because it's employees only.

markz08 05-13-2008 09:32 AM

how come he take the jump seat? didn't he know that its not right for him to be there? I mean its nice for the stewardess that is a passenger that time to give up her comfy seat but it is much better if both of them as passenger can have the right seat for the whole flight...

Rochard 05-13-2008 09:45 AM

Two million fucking dollars?

Was he chained to the toliet on his hands and knees and had to perform tricks?

LiveDose 05-13-2008 09:48 AM

Something in that story is not right. Very fishy.

He was probably one of these customer is always right assholes who wouldn't just get another flight. He likely bitched and moaned a hell of a lot to get one of the flight attendants to give up her seat.

In short anyone whom sues for $2 million over something so stupid is a bitch.

I was thinking the same thing.

I guess most people didn't even open that link before replying..

If that happened to me I'd sue the company for sure.

No, suing over something that stupid makes him an asshole.

For the cost of the ticket, sure.

Trying to milk them for 2 million bucks? He's just a petty thief.

No, she wasn't flying as a regular passenger, if she was, they would not have put her in the jump seat, period. If she had paid for a ticket, full price, then she was booked into a seat and that would be that. If she was flying standby -- which 99.9% of airline people do (because the ticket is dirt cheap) -- then she gets what she gets, and if the airline has a revenue passenger, they get priority for seats over standby employees. The only exception would be an employee being moved from one point to another by the airline -- in which case the airline assigns them regular seats at no cost, and that's where they sit for the flight.

Like I said, one of my best friends flies for United, and the FAA has rules, before the airlines do, about who can sit where. On United, American and USAir (just to name three that I am sure of), employees are not allowed to standby into first class -- or the jumpseat -- if they are wearing jeans. Company policy.

I use companion standby tickets when I'm going somewhere and I don't care when I get there, or I am off on a lark -- sometimes I get first class, sometimes I get the back of the bus. Non-employees aren't allowed to sit in jump seats. And no one is allowed to sit in a toilet.

I do agree that the lawsuit is pretty ridiculous... he should have first went to the airline and I'm sure they would have worked something out, if the story is true.

DaddyHalbucks 05-13-2008 11:29 AM

I can see the guy being granted 1 round trip ticket to anywhere he wants to go.

However, I don't see how the guy will prove $2 million in damages.

Yeah and im SURE he wears a seatbelt everytime he drives in a car, driver , passenger.
And Im sure hes the one who told this story to the press in his version only.

"At one point, the airplane experienced turbulence and Mutlu sat on the toilet seat without a seat belt, causing him "tremendous fear," the lawsuit said."

Tremendous fear GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK. !!!!!!!!!!!

2 million dollars Mr Mutlu get a job and go fuck yourself.

Bosco 05-13-2008 11:56 AM

I favor the passenger, he should not have been told to go in the bathroom for the remainder of the flight, first off, its not safe and doesn't follow safety regulations and they should be sued based on that alone. to top it all off, the guy was embarrassed cause he had to sit on the john for 4 hours witch i would find humiliating . if the airline wanted to spare themselves the trouble they should have told the "employee" witch was traveling on reduced fair for sure to sit back and let paying customers on and they can take the next flight out.... like it works in every other airline.

I hope this guy gets payed more then 2 mill, companies like this should be shut down.

Unless this is all bullshit and this never really happened..but to be told to go " Hang Out " in the bathroom is grounds for a lawsuit on its own.
