I dont watch tv, and dont normally listen to the radio. I have seen Stern about .5 times thats a point. I turned it off.

I dont spend my days looking for who is gay and who is not, and I SURE as hell dont follow the old or new show, so it was news to me.

He officially came out about 2 years ago. Some of use figured it out long before then. Like George Michael. So many where shocked when he came out. I knew that in 1984.

I think I figured it out when I saw the episode where he kind of flips and plays pirate with the sword. I was a kid and well even then I knew at that instance he was just to happy.

The original concept was for Star Trek to be the first openly gay show on TV.

Remember, at the time, there still were not any female astronauts, so an all-male cast would seem plausible to the unsuspecting audience. The program was going to start out subtle at first, by use of clever submliminal phrases to loosen up and prepare the audience, such as "to boldly go where no man has gone before", and "exploring strange and different frontiers".

Naturally, the space travelers would eventually get lonely and horny, and before you can set your phasers on stun: BAM! Ghey buttseks!!!

The network decided to can that idea, believing the public was not yet ready for such openly gay characters, however a few vestiges were still kept in as an inside joke, such as referring to Dr. McCoy as "Bones", etc.
