Here is a FREE multi million dollar idea for you
SOMEONE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CREATE ME A TIVO THAT COMPLETELY CUTS AND DELETES COMMERCIALS FROM CABLE TELEVISION.
i pay well over 160 bucks a month total for everything I buy yet I still have to see freakin commercials. Paying that much, I want fucking immunity from commercials. yes i know advertisers will bitch, fuck them. they can ask time warner for some of the money i pay them. i hate having to even fast forward through them. just invent me something to completely cut and dice them out and just sew the segments together. i'd pay a 1000 bucks for this device. thanks.:mad::mad::mad::mad::1orglaugh |
ok...well i pay for both cable & satellite
so when i want to watch say "southpark" i just goto www.allsp.com (all commercials cut out) and before anyone goes breaking my balls....go fuck yourself, i pay for my share of comedy central |
Dont worry pretty soon Internet will replace Television :-) and then you can watch anything you want, anytime and with out commercials....working on it :-)
|
i hear you man..i woudnt mind good commercials but all of them are pure junk, pisses me off when i am watching lost
|
commercials suck...

Back when people recorded TV shows on VCRs there was a device that paused during commercials automatically. I guess the signal changes right before a commercial airs then the same way right before regular programming starts back up again. Worked pretty well if I remember correctly.
I'm sure it can be put into a DVR but aren't most set top DVRs given out by the cable companies who are somewhat loyal to advertisers? |
There used to be a device that could pause and restart a VCR (for recording) when the image faded to black, but that's not always reliable.
Could be possible to do something similar on playback, once the watcher hits the "skip commercial" button it hunts for a fade to black at high speed. If it stuffs up then it's still possible to manually move around to find the correct start point. |

there's your problem, you're dumb enough to buy and pay for a TIVO... build yourself a proper HTPC and there's a bunch of apps that work pretty well at auto cutting out the commercials. I can't think of the names of them right now, I download every TV show I care about (which isn't many)

I have the answer, its the Replay TV unit that was out around 6 years ago. ReplayTV is the Philips version of Tivo. I believe the model is 5040. It has a feature called commercial skip that when activated plays back your recorded shows commercial free. I am using three of them in my house and have an additional one still in the box. Sometime in 2002/3 I believe some Advertising association took legal action and forced them to remove this feature from all future models. When this occurred I bought a bunch of them as I absolutely loved the feature. You can pick one up on Ebay http://search.ebay.com/search/search...040&category0=

replay tv had that functionality in their boxes if it hadn't been for the fair use stomping mpaa suing them out of existance you would have it today. thank you copyright holders for stomping all over fair use again. |

For a glimpse into the future, I doubt television shows available online will stop doing commercials. I do see complete online entertainment productions in the near future, online Soaps, Sci fi stories, you name it and online private series based productions will swarm the net. You must remember the writers are free and they are beginning to realise the the internet's money making opportunities as they have been kept mostly in the dark over the years.
Online at present if you want to watch "Dancing With the Stars", "Lost" etc you can and it is free however they do play commericals inbetween segements. The commercials slots tend to be roughly 25 seconds long. It was this kind of playback of ( Revenue generating ) commercials that brought on the writers strike. Also notice watching News video's from CNN, FOX or any of the major networks you are getting commercials before the segment starts. You will also notice that Youtube now insert's ad's in the lower portion of many video clips, and even an element that drives clicks to view more clips while embedded on outside webpages. Commerical based video ad's are far away from ever being gone and I do believe they will become more and more common as the completion of the video evolution online comes to pass. There is alot ot think concerning the future of online entertainment and it is very safe to say the Internet will be going to the television, it already has using funny little boxes, however those will not even be necessary soon. Commericals are here to stay and remain unavoidable unless there is a premium paid for viewing things without interruption. One can think about such models with half premium paying or even free playing of content so long as commercials are to be within the playback sequence. Revenue generated from ad's makes well for revenue and so does premium payment directly from the viewers. It can run two ways. |
Just gotta say...
Nearly everything we watch in this house is on E4 (UK channel) and their commercial rock! Some for all the wrong reasons!!! Its all about watching a commercial that says "Guaranteed To Remove wrinkles, as proven by a medical study of women aged 40-59" and then right at the bottom, in tiny tiny fucking writing, it will say "May not remove or reduced wrinkles. Survey of 49 women, 53% noticed a difference" :D Oh and theres some washing tablet advert that ends with an 8 year old standing there rubbing the womens tits and staring at em lol Its supposed to be his mom, but during filming that kid clearly had other ideas! |

Its literally only for the last second of the Ad, but she's like the hottest pregnant milf on tv lol |
Not quite what you're looking for but I thought I'd throw it out there anyways because it's pretty cool:

But as we've quickly discovered, it's pretty easy to learn to love this little hundred dollar bugger, even despite the fact that we need another set top box in our living room like we need a hole in the head. Sure, it's great that Netflix subscribers get a cheap, easy avenue for additional content to their TV, but the real beauty here is that this might actually be a streaming video box friendly enough to rival the Apple TV -- or to give your folks. Some initial impressions:...." READ THE REST: http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/21/r...t-impressions/ |
How about a television in which you setup some channels based on priority and it automatically changes to top priority channel, whenever current channel plays a commercial, and change back after commercial is gone?
|
What is even worse than TV commercials is when you BUY DVD's and they put this "anti piracy" disclaimer that you cant even jump past.
WTF should I be forced to look at that when buying it, and then I could in reality download the same movies with annoyances like that removed :321GFY |

you just have to learn to be a ninja with the remote .. i have it down to a science .. i cant Fast Forward super past and usually hit play 3-5 seconds before the show comes back on.
Only once in a blue moon does something fake me out. They should make a Tivo showdown .. i would totally win ;-) xoxo, Megan |
and when the surfers start to watch the porn without commercials we are out :D
