So is Kimbo for real as an MMA fighter or just a novelty act?
is he MMA's Butterbean?
|
I think he's the real deal. Once his ground game gets a little more solid, he'll be a tough guy to beat. He still shows signs of being a street fighter though, which will get him in trouble, but I think he's for real.

He is a good stand-up guy but he still hasn't been tested on the ground yet. Either way he is training with the best.
|
he has only beaten cans... and wouldnt be surprised if some of those fights were fixed... novelty act all the way...

No college wrestling and less than 1-2 years MMA training = Novelty Still a bad ass and I wish him the best of luck. |
i'm gonna go with novelty act at the moment. he's a mean motherfucker. but most of his fame is hyped at the moment. he has proven nothing yet really.

If Bos Rutten says he is the real deal then he is. It will be nice to see him fight a ground fighter once. Tomorrow night is going to be off the chain! :thumbsup

He is new Tank Abott . Kimbo dont have good technic , he only have very strong punch and hardcore style fight. I dont think that he can be very good fighter MMA.

I think he can be the real deal. He is clearly very strong and hits hard. It looks like he is training hard and learning the ground game more. I think the main thing he needs is to be able to defend against the takedown so when he fights a ground fighter he can keep it on their feet where he can dominate. Chuck Liddell does that very well (although Liddell has a wrestling background). He keeps it standing where he can throw punches. I think Kimbo needs to do the same thing while he learns more of the ground game.
I don't see any problem with a few tomato can fights to start off. Just about every fighter starts off with lower quality opponents when they first start out, it is just that Kimbo is much higher in profile than most regular fighters. This guy he is facing tomorrow is not the best fighter in the world, but he is a nice step up and I really look forward to seeing it. I'm actually just as interested to see if he and his crew get to wear the Reality Kings shirts into the ring on national TV. |
We'll see how he does. Ive seen some of the video of him training he looks pretty solid.
|
He would lose to anyone of the top 30 fighters of his weight division. :2 cents:

lol!! Kimbo new theme song https://youtube.com/watch?v=zPsPPmHxIbQ

A bit off topic -- but do you think a fighter like Lennox Lewis (in his prime) would have made very short work of UFC fighters...?

I have seen some ufc/mma fights while in pubs, bars, etc. I don't like seeing two dudes wrestling , watch alot of boxing and it's not the same. If they wasn't allowed to hold, grapple, etc then boxers will have a chance. and just like everything else you can't up and one day decide I'm going to a boxer, ufc, mma. edit- i saw the kimbo and that boston cop clip and he was out matched. boxing wise he can beat anyone. up against a trained fighter in a controlled fight....we'll see |

Kimbo can be much bigger than this even if he is training ground skills and wrestling seriously. Elite XC is moving him along at just the right pace to keep it intersting. My Tivo is set for tomorrow night! |

I mean really its like asking if Nicolas Lidstrom could d-up Kobe |
A vast majority of pro MMA fighters are very good boxers as its part of the game. Not many boxers are trained in wrestling, BJJ, or Muay Thai. A fighter with just boxing skills loses 9/10 fights.
