I don't understand all this sudden hatred for Kimbo.

#1 He came out of nothing. He is a hard worker. I've spoken to several people who know him in person. He's got good manners, very nice and individual. What you see in the ring is not the Kimbo his friends know. He is a loving father and respectful individual.

#2 He's our BOY! He has very strong ties to the adult industry. I don't need to explain the tie between Kimbo and NastyDollars, if you don't know the history look it up.

#3 I think even the most die hard Kimbo fans (myself) will admit that he is probably not good enough to compete with the guys at the top of his weight class. He's a bit old and doesn't have enough experience.

Tonight he fought an experienced fighter. And no matter how many times he got knocked the fuck out in his career he has a WINNING RECORD and is far more experienced then Kimbo. I think he matched up well with Kimbo (as opposed to his previous opponents). He was strategically sound and had the body to absorb Kimbo's menacing punches.

I really hope Kimbo works on his stamina a bit and learns from his mistakes in that fight. He may never be the champ, but who cares he's made enough $ to take care of his family and thats all that matters at the end of the day.

Good Luck Kimbo!

I see it more as a hate for what the sport is doing around him and not a hate for him. I do not see a super skilled fighter when I watched him. I saw someone who needs a whole hell of a lot more education in something more than brawling. I think people saw that once someone who really knows grappling goes in with him and does not fall to the all to powerful punchers chance, you will see Kimbo loose and loose often.

marketsmart 06-01-2008 01:22 AM

no one should hate on kimbo... the fight was free.. he has been training mma for what, a max of 12-18 months? he will get better, but at the end of the day he will never be a top mma fighter.. he is too old and doesnt have the time or background to become a good ground player...

however, you dont have to be a great ground fighter in the lt heravy to heavy divisions... but i def think kimbo needs to work on stamina.. he seems to gas out a lot faster than he should if he wants to compete at a top level...

right now the fights are being chosen very methodically.. i think the promoters are trying to get as much as they can from him before they put him against someone who can actually fight mma well.....

dig420 06-01-2008 01:30 AM

I don't think anyone hates Kimbo... guys who know the game didn't like to see him anointed as the second coming before he ever graduated from fighting tomato cans but that doesn't mean we hate him. It takes huge balls to get in that ring, you gotta respect that.

potter 06-01-2008 04:43 AM

who hates kimbo?

MakingItPay 06-01-2008 06:23 AM

Lots of love for Kimbo. Hope he continues to move up the ranks. I was glad to see him graduate from fighting in the backyards with guys that weren't qualified to go head to head with him (Except Gannon). I hope his hard work pays off. Looks good so far.

payd2purv 06-01-2008 11:25 AM

People are idiots.

90% of those idiots happen to work in the adult industry and surf this forum.

notoldschool 06-01-2008 11:30 AM

I agree with the others that its not hate for Kimbo, but hate for EliteXC for pimping him out. They have a small selection of top MMA fighters, most aging fast, and they are banking on Kimbo's internet popularity to keep their next to bankrupt league going another week. I cant really blame them about it either, but it sucks for the guys who put the time in and dont get the money or recognition.

payd2purv 06-01-2008 11:33 AM

Kimbo doesn't need internet popularity he's fucking king kong.

People want to watch him crush people.

Why hate Elite XC? They are paying Kimbo decent bucks, and giving some other good fighters opportunities and options that they wouldn't otherwise have to fight in a pretty big forum and televised on Showtime and/or CBS in primetime. And that applies to the aging veterans looking for a payday and another shot at a title, as well as for some up and coming guys looking to showcase their talents. I agree that the reffing in the Kimbo fight was sketchy, but there have also been similar instances of questionable judgment calls over stoppages even in UFC fights.

EVERY stoppage on the card was questionable for thier high profile fighters. The Carrano fight, the Lawler fight, the Kimbo fight, ALL very questionable stoppages.

Comparing that show to a UFC event... oh man it just sucks that it wasn't the UFC that got that network TV date. The world needs to see BJ Penn or GSP, not Kimbo.

I was explaining how others might feel. I personally liked the show and thought the card was good with the exception of the Kimbo fight. I watch fighting everyday and I dont care who puts on the show. Hell I even watch Bodog and it has horrific production value. I also think the world should not be duped into believing these guys are the top fighters in the world. It makes me laugh that Kimbo and champion is ever mentioned in the same sentence. Its also pretty that every ref last night making the bad calls were UFC refs. Kimbo should NOT have been the last fight of the night no matter what. Disrespecting two very good fighters competing for a the belt for two very green fighters is bad IMO.

xentech 06-01-2008 11:55 AM

I don't hate Kimbo, he seems pretty sound and isn't up his own arse. I hate his fans who think he is the best fighter in the world, it's ridiculous.

Doctor Dre 06-01-2008 12:30 PM

I don't hate on kimbo... but elite XC is a peice of shit for putting such cards on national TV.

It makes MMA look amateursih. It was C level fighters all night and it's the first time MMA is on national TV. First impression is everytthing

Drake 06-01-2008 01:58 PM

It takes gumption to do what Kimbo has done. He's an older guy who has brawled all his life. Turning pro and having a moderately successful career is all good. He's doing it to pay the bills.

pr0 06-01-2008 02:04 PM

who's hating on him? everyone i know likes him....& roots for him

i know a ton of people who have made lots of $ betting on him as well

TyroneGoldberg 06-02-2008 11:51 AM

why not. they're behind a computer.

Anette Dawn 06-02-2008 11:55 AM

What are you talking about?

skrog 06-02-2008 01:03 PM

His latest fight was pretty sad. He got tired so fast and he was throwing sloppy punches. He just got lucky by popping that dudes disfigured, fetus ear. :1orglaugh

sinclair 06-02-2008 01:48 PM

I will say it once again.

Faber Vs. Pulver

hell yeah. that was a great fight.

EliteXC should have done a Kung Li vs Frank Shamrock rematch. That was one of the best fights I've seen in a long time.

Also....Elites commentators are horrible. Joe Rogan and Bas Ruten should do the play by play on every MMA fight ever televised, imo.

Andy Servers4Less 06-02-2008 02:29 PM

Kimbo's gonna beat you guys up if you talk smack :) See sig

Kudles 06-02-2008 06:19 PM

The guy is a great fighter and thats all that should matter.

D-dub 06-02-2008 10:02 PM

Gotta give Kimbo props.....

There are a ton of jealous people in the entire MMA industry that would have given their first born to get the chance to be the top card at the first ever free televised fight. Kimbo Slice will have a lot of followers just because he was the showcased heavyweight.

He does need to work on his endurance first off. He has been working on his ground game, but that takes time. He is a brawler. Nothing else as of yet. I don't think he is too old to fight or learn. Couture is going to be 45 at the end of this month, and he is waiting and traing for the fight of his career. He isn't too old IMO. Lets not forget that Kimbo did just knock Tank Abbott out. Yes, he is overweight and out of his prime, but he is still a dangerous man inside that cage.

As to Elite XC going bankrupt, that isn't going to happen. They already have BK as a big advertiser now. Now if they keep lying about shit they will lose any kind of following. They said Kimbo was recently homeless, and living out of his 4-Runner. That was a long time ago. I hate that crap. talk about how he used to bareknuckle to pay bills, and bodyguard, but don't make it sound like they found him on some street corner with a carboard sign. They should tell the true story and give him the dignity he has earned. I like how humble he presents himself and he is all about hard work.

You can be assured that CBS explained to Elite that the fights will be stopped with the least amount of damage to fighters due to the fact that it is going out to the general public for free. They can't risk someone being seriously injured in front of all those viewers. Why doesn't anyone understand that boxing would have made way more money if it could have stayed on regular TV? After Boom Boom killed that guy it was all over. Big companies will pay waay more money to get to larger numbers. That is the flaw with UFC. UFC will be out and over in 5 years unless they change. Mark Cuban will make sure that happens. Fighters will get paid in the future. I just hope that there will be NO DON KING of MMA. He ruined boxing.

I agree about the questionable stoppages in every case. But I would content that that was not Elite XC's fault. It was more likely the fault of the NJ Athletic Commission doctor's and CBS who had hair triggers over the blood and potential barbarism of the fights. It's too bad, but putting MMA on network tv might have forced too much of a compromise. UFC may have been savvy not to get in bed with a network tv station for this reason.

Bullshit. They let Kimbo take about 2000 unanswered punches at the end of the second round.

Did you just propose Randy Couture v. Kimbo? What do you have against Kimbo?

I don't believe that is what he was saying. More along the lines that Randy can still throw down at his age, and Kimbo could do the same.

Yeah, but Randy has been training for MMA since he was a kid. Wrestling translates well to MMA and street fighting does not. Randy has a couple decades in the game and Kimbo has less than a year.
