ATTENTION: ThePlanet/EV1 Customers who are affected by the extended outage

In the world of Web Hosting good companies work hard to offer as many redundancies as possible to it's customers. With that said, however, you cannot possibly imagine every conceivable scenario that can take an internet company offline. While we strive to be the best in the business, even we have issues that pop up from time to time and we truly HATE to see one of our competitors going through something as catastrophic as a Data Center explosion. Another thing we hate even worse is to see sleaze bag hosting companies come out and try to profit from an issue that could have just as easily happened to them.

To that end, if there is any customer of ThePlanet/EV1 that is still down tomorrow morning at 10am EST, NationalNet will offer you free hosting until they are able to get their services back online. Once their service is restored you will be expected to move your hosting back to your original host. We WILL NOT accept you as a customer because we do not want this to be misconstrued as an attempt to make a profit. If, after 60 days, you choose to move your hosting we would love to offer you a proposal but we will not accept your business before then. If you have a local backup of your site, we could have your entire site up. If it is large paysite, you may just choose to have a landing page explaining the situation to your members and asking their patience. Whatever works for you, will work for us.

This offer is limited to customers that are hosted at ThePlanet H1 Data Center in Dallas that was rocked by the explosion last night and remain down until 10am EST on Monday morning. In addition, this offer will be on a first come first served basis because we cannot jeopardize our existing clients support levels to help a competitors clients. Due to hardware supplies, personnel requirements or time investments it is possible that we will not be able to help everyone we would like, but we will try our best to help as many as we possibly can. We do hope that they are able to restore their service before tomorrow but if not, we want to be able to offer our services free of charge to people who are still affected.

To take advantage of this offer, contact us at [email protected] and we will work with you to get something up.

Before you ask "What's in it for NatNet?"....lets just say we hope that the WebHosting Gods will smile on us for trying to help. We know as well as anyone that it could just as easily be us in that same position.

leave them alone, you can't even get close to their pricing.

So..NOT true, it's NOT SweetT's style and anyone who knows him, knows this!

They offer the best service in the business and there's nothing wrong with helping out, if in return it shows, their excellent customer service, then be it. It's something to be proud of.

PS: learn to type english!

I'm small potatos but I have two servers down over their with over 100 domains... :/ Hope they get things back up soon. I remember back when ev1 had a similar situation a transformer blew up and they lost part of the building and the downtime was only a few minutes. Oh well. Shit happens. :/

I was with theplanet, and YES he can....natnet and their team moved me directly from theplanet to natnet and my hosting experience hasn't been the same since

with theplanet it was constant worries, with natnet I haven't worried about a single thing

unlike theplanet, you can't TOUCH natnets commitment to their customer

If you think they aren't taking advantage of this situation to steal over some customers, you are too stupid to live.

I disagree. In fact I have been trying to figure out a way to offer something similar (hosting a page explaining the outage). Since Nat Net stepped up first, we will just back off. But it doesn't always have to be about turning a profit, but rather showing goodwill.

I wish I could be surprised that some hosts would try to take advantage of this situation, but unfortunately, I'm not.

Well, I am going to be one of those people that choose to see this as one hosting company stepping in to assist when disaster strikes. SweetT I greatly appreciate the offer you have extended :)

To everyone else, if you are wondering why Industry Incentives is down..this is your answer lol

As they say....no good deed goes unpunished.

The bottom line is that it is easy for most of you to sit back and wonder about my motives because your sites are all up. From what I have seen by the number of emails I have already received the people who are actually down seem to be appreciative and those are the people that was really trying to reach with my thread. The rest of you are entitled to your opinions...even if they are misguided.

goodwill AND a better rep for stepping up? people who are happy with theplanet will ride this out where those who havent been happy with their service might use this opportunity to try something new. a free offer isnt going to direct them to natnet? helping out is good and all, but stop ignoring the fact that natnet WILL benefit from their help just as you would have had you done this.

thats not fair. im sure once theplanet comes back online natnet will DEMAND everyone who moved over to move back and if they want to stay with natnet will get an email that basicly says "this was only a temporary solution and since we werent stealing customers we must insist you go back to theplanet. we dont want to profit off this in anyway so cya." im sure that'll happen

BradM 06-01-2008 05:24 PM

Unless you are a 501(3c) then you are in a business to profit. And frankly, I see no problem doing it this way.

Good strategy. Anyone bitching about this being a "charade" well what the fuck do you expect, idiot? No one does anything for free, including you. Don't hate because you didn't think of it first. :)

ladida 06-01-2008 05:25 PM

This is fishing for customers, plain and simple.

i work for a profit just like the next guy. i just dont so around knocking people who do the very thing i do as a marketing ploy. i wish natnet all the best and understand why they're doing it but in the end dont piss on my head and then tell me its raining.

I really do not want to do battle with you, as (1) you are apparently a customer and (2) you are always entitled to your opinions but I, personally, do not know of any company that has solicited their clients due to this specific outage (although I didnt go look at the other threads...did you?). I simply hoped to stop it before it started because it was only a matter of time.

Remember....I have already said that we will REFUSE the business of anyone hosted with them for 60 days after this disaster. What more can I be expected to do to prove that this was all done as a gesture of goodwill? You tell me. I really just wanted to help.

At least have the balls to call a spade a spade. People would have more respect for you in the long run.

Saying that you're doing it out of the kindness of your heart is insulting to my intelligence.

alls im sayin is get off da soaap boxes! if you want to solicits clients den go ahead but dont take us for da fool if you do, you seems to be da only host beside the old coot wit da food particles in his beard postin.

I tend to find it common senes dat if someone were to move from da plant to you or any othea host in dis time of need that they would evea return after so much stress and trouble of moving.

enough said let da trolls be trolls ad let motha nature take her course

Ali...I understand your skepticism but all I can say is that we will absolutely not allow the people we help to stay with us once their host is back online. My word is all I have and you have to admit that I have earned "the benefit of the doubt" in this industry, right?

So that there is no misunderstanding, I would never say that I didn't expect this offer to generate some good publicity for our company and help show our commitment to this industry....just like when we donate large sums of money to the many charity auctions that have taken place on this very board....yes, we get some PR out of it...but ultimately we are not doing it for the PR...we are doing it because we want to help.

I am done with this now. My offer still stands and I hope that ultimately nobody ends up needing it.

Sure, people will think of these guys if they decide after a while that the planet is not for them.. But overall, this is a very kind and generous offer. And I cant see how its stealing customers or whatever. I doubt they'd just leave the planet over this. :2 cents:

peeperpimp 06-01-2008 06:52 PM

I'd say it was a good gesture, but it really doesn't matter now. The planet has started powering up H1 Data Center

https://www.servercommand.net/
is now back online, so it wont be long now

Aric 06-01-2008 09:14 PM

Nice gesture Tony.

I have been with ThePlanet for almost 5 years and very happy with them. This is just one of those things, and actually the very first problem I've encountered there. Shit happens - I'll be with them after this debacle.

RevSand 06-01-2008 09:36 PM

interesting stuff..

split_joel 06-02-2008 03:59 AM

What does it matter what national net's intentions are?

Fact is theplanet and ev1 are down and people need somewhere to go. NatNet is providing a free service to those who are down.

BTW I wish I worked for theplanet right now LOL i'd be making a killing in overtime.

Best of luck to theplanet and everyone affected by the downtime.

Tat2Jr 06-02-2008 04:21 AM

Fuck. Of course no one on GFY has heard of or believes in a little thing called karma. Nat Net saw a fucked up act of god thing go down with a competitor and tries to provide a service and help some folks when they're down and you guys go and start shit?? What comes around goes around. Nat Net is being really fucking cool here, and only on GFY could people..... oh, never fucking mind.... It won't matter anyway....I'm on GFY. Thumbs up Nat Net. You guys do and always have rocked. This just cemented it.

nikad 06-02-2008 07:15 AM

it would have been more respectful not to create a post on a competitors misfortune/troubles. they have enough to deal with right now. and as you said it can happen to you or any host. just think in the end it comes off in bad taste. :2 cents:
