That reminds me of a really sad situation I encountered back in college studying engineering. Apparently the girls were having more trouble getting interviews because of the perception that girls aren't good at science/engineering, and their resumes would get passed over because a female name was like a big X for the employer. Now it wasn't intentional or institutional or anything (because that would be illegal), but it was insidious and under the surface. I realized this because a girl who did get more interviews than the others, despite her regular resume, had some Iranian name that sounded like it could be a guy's.
Lesson to be learned: the world, especially the employment world, is dreadfully (albeit unconsciously) racist and sexist, not to mention superficial, so it's best to put a lot of thought into the name you give a kid.
