I almost named my kid Akira.. I'm canadian, wife is mexican..

I just like japanese names. Also it was the name of a BBS I was on as a youth, brings back a lot of good memories for me.

Then my buddy told my wife that Akira was a "serial killer"....

Fucker.

When she starts sending out resumes in 16 years, expect a huge disappointment.

That reminds me of a really sad situation I encountered back in college studying engineering. Apparently the girls were having more trouble getting interviews because of the perception that girls aren't good at science/engineering, and their resumes would get passed over because a female name was like a big X for the employer. Now it wasn't intentional or institutional or anything (because that would be illegal), but it was insidious and under the surface. I realized this because a girl who did get more interviews than the others, despite her regular resume, had some Iranian name that sounded like it could be a guy's.

Lesson to be learned: the world, especially the employment world, is dreadfully (albeit unconsciously) racist and sexist, not to mention superficial, so it's best to put a lot of thought into the name you give a kid.

it is like that in every field. People generally would prefer to hire a man unless it is a dead end secretarial position. If a woman walks in and seems like she has ambition and goals, she has no shot at getting hired either.

let me say hi to the baby and welcome to this goddamn world :):):)

I had a GF who named her baby-girl Chiquita Rene. When Momma wasn't around, we refred to the kid as Nannahead.

As someone tagged with a nick from birth .. I do wish ppl would think before they name a kid, for life.
