Anyone here ever gotten their WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOLEN? WTF!!!

So I was driving down the freeway here in LA yesterday and needed to use my windshield wipers, and BAAM(!) there is a large screeching sound as just the metal on BOTH my wipers try to wipe window but with no actual rubber on them - they are just GONE.

Some one stole them! WTF!? How petty is that?!

:disgust:321GFY:(

tranza 06-03-2008 10:06 AM

Lol, that's the first time I heard about it.

Any chances this was a prank??

Vicious_B 06-03-2008 10:08 AM

Nothing suprises me anymore

If it was a prank I would know it by now, so nope. Unreal!

Now the thing is that they are not the cheapest wiper blades in town but still - to use them you need to have my exact car from what I understand and people with this type of car should not typically need to steal... :disgust

A little bit - I couldn't turn the darn thing off right away as it does like 5 wipes before it stops. It was excruciating...

BVF - I would not call Westchester/Playa Del Rey ghetto :) I am sure we get strays over here from the ghetto from time to time though.

baddog 06-03-2008 10:12 AM

You don't need windshield wipers this time of year anyway.

LilBro 06-03-2008 10:21 AM

were they the bosch premium blades or rainx latitude?

RP Fade 06-03-2008 10:24 AM

Dude..apparently one of the latest popular theft items are catalytic converters. At least this is the first time I hear about it. My brother in law just had his stolen from his car in broad daylight at his apartment building. It was even recorded on the security camera, took all but 5 minutes for them to take it out. Apparently, the cops said that some contain precious metals and can be melted down and sold for like $80-100. Or they can also be sold used as well.

Guess they'll steal anything these days..

chri$tian 06-03-2008 10:24 AM

Thats crazy talk, i did have my gas cap stolen once... just a strange i guess.

crad 06-03-2008 11:50 AM

I had just replaced my windshield wipers and put the only ones in the box the new ones came in. Didn't have time to throw the box away, so I just left it in the car. That night, someone broke into my car and stole the old wipers in the new box. :1orglaugh

just look at a price chart for palladium and you'll see why.

GrouchyAdmin 06-03-2008 01:30 PM

My guess would be that this thread was printed out and stuck under one of the blades.

borked 06-03-2008 02:49 PM

I had my car stolen early last year. Police found it 2 weeks later, all rammed out and shit, but in general working order, except the fuckers stole the wipe blades. I was like you, cos the car was full of sand (inside and out) - went to clean the windshield and was like wtf????

New car now, and kick ass new blades - these bendy rubber things that cost like 80euro/blade. Luckily enough, it's not possible to steal them without popping the hood, cos the wiper arm goes under the hood. Mine's now a boring Peugeot 307 estate for family purposes.

dav3 06-03-2008 03:30 PM

At least they didn't steal your car. :)

The only thing I could guess was that they got a flat and couldn't afford a new tire so they just found a car like theirs and jacked the wheel and all. Really sucked because I was working a double shift that day and had just come home for a bite of dinner before heading back for the night. Needless to say I was a little late to work.
