Either it is a Jewish holiday, or the gas prices are having a positive effect.

The freeways are empty. Which is it?

Rochard 06-03-2008 03:51 PM

It's the price of gas. Peeps can't afford it. It's nice really. I rarely drive and these days when I do the freeways are empty!

payd2purv 06-03-2008 03:52 PM

I noticed their was less people on the road today also...

GrouchyAdmin 06-03-2008 03:52 PM

Seriously. I had to go to the Valley today (took 405 and 101) and the traffic reminded me of midnight rather than lunch hour.

Kudles 06-03-2008 04:22 PM

Maybe it's because people are at work.

You have obviously never driven in LA.

_Richard_ 06-03-2008 04:26 PM

accident maybe?

nice to see the gas prices are having one positive effect

BradM 06-03-2008 04:27 PM

Good, I need to drive to North OC today and I have a stick. Wasn't looking forward to it.

California would be slightly higher in price per gallon. Perhaps there is a set number that makes people say no fucking way.

One accident affecting traffic on two freeways, for traffic in both directions over a two hour time period?

You didn't give much thought to that one I guess.

That's why I asked if it was a Jewish holiday. When I used to have to drive to Beverly Hills every morning I could always tell when it was a Jewish holiday because the traffic would be noticeably lighter.

I don't know if DC has the same phenomenon.

I think there is the same concentration of most races/religions in the d.c. area as in Hollywood actually. And gas is probably around the same price. $4.41 for regular etc.

I think premium is $4.33 down the street. Maybe that was regular, it is climbing. Since I am usually filling up one of the bikes I don't really notice other than I may pay $13 when I used to pay $1.

pocketkangaroo 06-03-2008 09:16 PM

I haven't seen much drop here either. We're the highest prices in the country too. Cost me $4.51 to fill up the other day.

I do know that SUV sales have tanked. My buddy runs two dealerships in the area and says they can't pay someone to buy an SUV.

Porno Dan 06-03-2008 10:24 PM

There was a report on the local news out here that there are less people driving and more and more using public transportation.

BradM 06-03-2008 10:40 PM

405N through Orange County was about 20% lighter today. Odd.

Jewish holiday next week so you may notice a change in traffic Monday or Tuesday. Nothing this week.

That is great news. Normally when I drive to SF I have to leave very early or deal with rush hour traffic.

Sounds like smooth sailing.
