How many zeros in a billion?





This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.


A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?

Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.

B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.
Or... if you are a family of four...

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in the world...
and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?
Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to

VERY interesting way to put things.

Looks to me like I should be moving to New Orleans.

Before the Industrial Revolution.

1. 98% of the country was self employed
2. Imported goods made up a very small % of the consumer market

The New Deal happened.

1. Our govt was stolen from us and we were sold as slaves to bankers
2. Our currency was no longer backed by gold
3. Their will not be any way to regain our govt without force

A billion seconds ago it was 1977. A billion minutes ago Jesus had been dead for 70 years.

Here's some more ways to think about $1 billion. If Bill Gates lost $1 billion dollars he'd only have $54 billion left over. If Bill Gates and Warren Buffet spent all but $1 billion of their fortunes each on re-building new Orelans they could pay for 45% of the cost all by themselves. If the government gave out $1 billion to all Americans each American would get a whopping $3.30

I wondered if any of that crap was true, did you do the math on the billion seconds? and is that american or english billion?

Every day is 86,400 seconds. So american billion (1,000,000,000) would put us in late 1976, yet english billion (1,000,000,000,000) would put us at some time around 31,710 years ago.

24 x 365 = 8760 hours in a year

8760 x 60 = 525.600 mins in a year

525.600 x 60 = 31.536.000 seconds in a year

Do the rest yourselves. I don't have a calculator with so many zeros. :winkwink:

31.536.000 seconds _________________ 1 year
1.000.000.000.000 (1billion) seconds ___ X years

PS: for Spain and Latin America, a billion equals 1 million of millions, that's why it takes 12 zeros.
