If you bought an iPhone in 2007/2008 are you?

FUCKING PISSED?

Apple is now set to introduce its newest iPhone. Version 2.0 and it has 8gigs for $200 and 16gigs for $300. It does 3G and fixes a host of problems that plagued the original. It comes with more apps and a few more features that owners of the current phone requested (but won't get). Also improved battery life and apps rewritten to consume less juice.

This is why I didn't buy that brick. It is just like the iPod. Do you know of anyone who is still toting around an original iPod? Hell no! Because it don't even work anymore. Buggy as fuck and the hard drive probably crashed three years ago.

Know anyone with an iPod Mini with a real HD and not flash memory? Hell no! At least not a working one... Unless they replaced the drive and the battery by now.

Now it is safe to get an iPhone.

But if you want even MORE advances, wait for 1 more year.

DateDoc 06-09-2008 04:39 PM

Nope not pissed. Happy to have a new toy soon. :thumbsup

farkedup 06-09-2008 04:45 PM

All of these idiots having been thinking they had the best thing on earth for so long when EVERYBODY outside the apple fanboys saw this coming. The first iphone was a JOKE that none of the fanboys could see (I've been saying it for a LONG TIME)

Any phone thats supposed to be a "smartphone" made/purchased in the past year ABSOLUTELY has to have GPS and wifi support. Anything without it was a POS.

Is the battery easier to replace yet? how's that wifi working?

shhhh Jobs will hear you

chri$tian 06-09-2008 04:53 PM

Old iphone WILL in fact be getting the software update to 2.0 (with tons of improvements as wll as access to the new AppStore), so minus the 3g and true GPS, it will function the same.

But to have paid $599 and now the new one is $199, that a little hard to swallow.. You will have to get or extend your AT&T contract to 2 years to get the $199 or $299 for the 16gb price though.

P.S. My Wifi and phone have been working great since day one... no complaints, love it.

Birdman33 06-09-2008 04:54 PM

Not pissed at all best phone i have ever had.

Rique 06-09-2008 04:59 PM

Common sense tells you never to buy the first generation of an electronic. As much as I wanted an iPhone when they first came out last year, I decided to wait it out, and it looks as though on July 11th I'll finally be rewarded.... cheaper phone, better functionality, 3G, GPS built in, all for under 2 bills.

Is it July 11th yet? LOL

farkedup 06-09-2008 04:59 PM

don't take my comments the wrong way... The new iphone LOOKS like it can now claim to be the best phone on the market. The first iphone had absolutely no right. It could only claim stake a claim at the coolest interface BUT couldn't be in the discussion for the best smartphone for anybody.

Right now the locking is the only horrible thing about it. When will it be fully available outside of ATT? nothing will get me away from my sprint sero plan. This iphone with sprint though is certainly nice. paying $25/mnth for unlimited data, text and 500 minutes a month just can't be beat. I'm going to try to get my monthly fee down a bit further...

V_RocKs 06-09-2008 05:03 PM

Yes, the new iPhone can definitely claim to be the best phone on the market. Just like the current iPod is the best MP3 player. Look sweet. I MIGHT even think about switching.

Atticus 06-09-2008 05:08 PM

Not pissed at all. Paid $599 for it a year ago. Got the $100 Apple gift card when they lowered the price the first time. So $499 and well worth it. The best phone I have ever had. Works great and my year old son dropped it and cracked the front but still works like a charm.

On July 11th I'll get the new one. So basically for the people who claim they are justified in waiting a full year to get the 2nd version I say you missed out. The extra $200 for a full years worth of the Iphone (even the first edition) is well worth it.

Of couse other smart phones have more features but thats not really the point. It's the ease of use that people love about it.

BVF 06-09-2008 05:09 PM

If the phone doesn't have a basic call block feature, then I still won't buy it.....

GetSCORECash 06-09-2008 05:09 PM

i love my Iphone, it truly was and is the best phone I had, had upto this point.

If you regret buying the original iphone then you regret buying a computer everytime a new processor comes out.

If you plan on waiting a year, wait three more, and keep on waiting for the future Iphone with WiMax.

slapass 06-09-2008 05:37 PM

Yep a little pissed. I was more pissed when they dropped the price like that. Also not real pleased that MSN email does not work on it but that is a microsoft issue. Love the phone but still like to bitch a bit.

starpimps 06-09-2008 05:38 PM

If everyone had the same mentality as the OP then we would never buy a computer, phone, computer or any electronic device. Things are always evolving

I didn't buy the first gen iphone although I've played with my friends and it definitely is way better then any other phone I have used. I will be buying this new one for sure.

miss_bellabellini 06-09-2008 05:43 PM

I can't wait till we finally have them available in Canada! I HATE my motorola Q, what stupid phone.

No, like not allowing certain numbers to make your phone ring....It just goes to voicemail...

My old Razr had a feature where you could only take calls from people in your address book....Now on my LG, I can create a list of numbers that are not allowed to get through to me....It works well, especially with my ex-wife calling all the time with bullshit.

tony286 06-09-2008 05:52 PM

do they make a case that actually protects the glass? I want one but see myself dropping it and breaking the glass within a week.

Chris 06-09-2008 06:07 PM

im probably gonna upgrade and slang my old one for like a 100 bux or something because the speakers on this thing reallyyy sucks and the new one has upgraded speakers and audio all around

Miguel T 06-09-2008 07:09 PM

Computers when things like processors are released simply work FASTER than they did before. This iphone has 2 very important features that the first one SHOULD have had. These features such as GPS is something all high end phones have had since BEFORE the iphone was released. In this case its not a simple speed increase. It rolls in an entirely seperate device. Google maps sucks so until Garmin has something for the iphone the GPS just won't be put to use RIGHT.

In the case of 3G this is like going from dialup to DSL (anybody remember how MAJOR this was?) Apparently the ATT 3G network isn't that good.... with Sprint using the various bandwidth tests even out in the middle of nowhere I can pull 600K downloads. Major cities I get better than DSL speed. So obviously this 3G addition might not do much for a LOT of areas but as it goes nationwide for some people you can get DSL speed over the phone in places where only dialup is available.

Take my mom as an example. Her house simply cannot get DSL or cable internet YET she averages around 300K connections through sprint. I have her setup with laptop tethering and using PDANET with a sprint SERO where she pays $30 TOTAL a month for 500 minutes of phone and unlimited internet. Even hooked to her laptop she's never heard a word from sprint about overusage and her internet has been upgraded!

Ryan St. Germain 06-09-2008 07:43 PM

I bought mine the day it was released, and it'll have been over a year. I don't often keep a phone more than a year. Had I bought one recently I'd probably be less happy about it.

However, technology changes, and to wait a year for the second gen release is actually pretty far behind pace for most average phone manufacturers. If you think that a company will stop developing technology so that you can feel that you got the most out of your purchase, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Save yourself the trouble of buying this one, if that's the case too; because they will likely be putting the next version out in even less time.

It needed to be improved upon, and while I was hoping for a little bit more from this gen (where the fuck is the ability to send a photo via sms), i'll but this gen too.

Oh, and my parents bought one of the first VCR that ever came out. Cost 1k back in the eighties. What do they go for now?

You can get stuff to protect the glass but because the screen needs to be touch sensitive they can only put soo much material over the screen.

The screen is extremely durable I have dropped my fone a few times with no scratches or breaks on the screen.

woj 06-09-2008 07:47 PM

it's not exactly shocking...but it's gotta suck that the price is less than half, making the 1st generation iphones, kinda worthless...

The whole keeping a phone for a YEAR is nice but think about how much those first people SPENT is the key. I was reading this morning the average phone purchase is ~$100 so buying one of THOSE every year isn't so bad. I don't mind spending $200/yr for a nice shiny new phone every year BUT when you go above that line its just asking too much for yearly product cycles.

This years iphone refresh simply CATCHES UP to the competition in features. How long has like Nokia been using like 5MP integrated cameras? I just would have expected apple to step shit up in more areas.

Just like windows they simply don't send SMS text images which I HATE too.... I'm still kind of in the air between an HTC Touch diamond (raphael) or this new iphone. I'll have to play with both before I make a decision. Windows 6.1 "threading" text messages is a nice improvement. I send a lot of text messages and use my phone for internet more than I do as a phone. Shit using skype and other apps on my phone with unlimited data helps those 500 minutes of mine last forever.

The new one starts at $199, and I doubt they expect all users to replace theirs yearly. They do, however, have the intelligence to realize that at the price reduction, it's not out of the question that a lot of people will.

The iphone does threaded text messaging.

Iphone has skype and all that.

The screen and browser for the iphone can't be beat for browsing. it's massive and extremely bright and sharp. and soo easy to zoom in on areas and move around etc..

I think the new iphone is smaller than the diamond also..

that last part I was saying was just In general, nothing against iphone or anybody...

The big reason why I like the diamond raphael is the full keyboard, touch keyboards simply blow (yes I've spent days with the iphone) when it comes to quick texting more than a dozen letters. Some phones I can practically type at computer keyboard speeds.

the non threading of text messages has been a huge letdown for windows mobile which was just added with 6.1

Like I've said before if this new phone can be had for a reasonable price and unlock to work with sprint I'm all over it even if I have to throw down $400.

I realize the new one is supposed to be $200 but I bet thats after $200 + in "incentives" I might just pickup a previous gen one for $100 when everybody starts upgrading and use it more as a toy than anything else. I can slip out of my sprint contract with my current line easy enough (or just drop it down to that emergency only type 200 minute/mnth $5/mnth plan and give it to a family member)

My thoughts exactly. IPhone is the best phone i have ever owned, looking forward to the improved 3g version.

Rique 06-09-2008 09:06 PM

It'll be interesting to see who will actually camp out for the new iPhone. I am sure there will be plenty of people doing so, especially here in LA (Apple Store @ The Grove). Myself, I plan on going to a poor area, where folks aren't likely to be buying them in droves (Huntington Park/East LA) to purchase mine on the 11th LOL.

Jens Van Assterdam 06-09-2008 09:50 PM

i bought the OLD 8GB iphone for 335,00.- EUR not too long ago...

pamon 06-09-2008 11:05 PM

big issue now is you have to activate it in the apple or at&t stores vs the online thing. Can't go home and activate it, you have to do it in store. Don't know the process though. Gizmodo broke that story. bummer

Ahhhh.. Yes the software keyboard has it's disadvantages not being able to feel the edge of a key sucks for buttons that small..

I've been reading that the $200 price is a 2 year plan price and you must add 2 years onto your phone with this plan price. Hinting that the phone will cost more outside of a plan...

But I could be very wrong.

I love the HTC diamond btw HTC is a great brand.

farkedup 06-10-2008 12:25 AM

yeah I think it'll be quite a while before the unlocking has any benefits, from the sounds of it they're forcing you into a contract as the ONLY way to get one which is insanely stupid... by time you pay the activation and all that... You can bet if you break the contract you'll have to the the ETF AND an additionall $200-$300 on top of that if you'd like to keep the phone you already paid $200 for... so realistically it'll cost at LEAST $600 for the phone just for a shot at unlocking it. quite possibly $800+ which really locks you into using ATT.

isn't it a joke to charge $600 for something with WORSE SPECS than phones half the price?

iphone was classic apple toss something pretty on something not as good as the competition and charge more for it... Oh yeah lets not forget making it HARDER for the users to buy.

iphone 2 appears to be better priced at least... and caught up (for now) on specs. They really should have put at LEAST a camera upgrade in too...

Iphone 2 isn't as big of an update as it SHOULD have been. Jobs is half assing it again

V_RocKs 06-10-2008 04:01 AM

The point of my thread was that the people who shelled out $600 didn't get $600 worth of phone. They got $600 worth of being the first to have something that should have cost $400 tops... And the extra $200 went towards R&D. Apple didn't have to spend money to upgrade the new phone. Selling a million of them at $200 more than they were worth did that.

Now Apple is set to make their killing. They have a phone version 2.0 that they paid nothing for and the manufacturing process has been streamed lined for. New phones cost apple $80 to make and they can sell them for pure profit.

All because someone had to be the first with an iPhone.

DamianJ 06-10-2008 04:07 AM

Wow. Some technology put out ONE YEAR ago has now been replaced with something better and cheaper!

Well fuck me sideways, that NEVER has happened in the history of consumer electronics.

Apple are cunts.
