New iPhone - very disappointing

Besides 3G and GPS there is nothing new... ok add the push services to that list (which I personally don't need).
all battery saving shit should be available to the old iphone via software updates
besides that?
where is there any word about an improved camera? Still the old crappy camera that can only take incredibly shaky pictures and videos only via 3rd party applications with no sound? What is this... seriously

besides 3G which is nice.... why should I switch? Why (in theory) add an additional two years to your contract at higher prices for basically the same, slightly enhanced thing?
convince me to upgrade.... i don't get it.

I thought the new iphone was available without the commitment to a contract?!

For me, the 3G feature alone does it. That crappy edge performance sucked from day 1, especially here in europe where we have almost full umts coverage...

CybermedAndy 06-10-2008 01:28 AM

$199

Thats enough reason for me :thumbsup

Trax 06-10-2008 01:41 AM

i read the new contract is mandatory... that it won't be sold at 199 without it...
engadget confirmed its the same piece of shit camera
still the same wifi - no /n
no mms
basically the same old shit on 3G, gps and push
apple sucks

2crazy4u 06-10-2008 01:45 AM

I will still check it out

bloggingseo 06-10-2008 01:47 AM

I am thinking about getting one but how high is the service per month ? I haven't had an iphone yet so I have no clue

not too hard to find out, is it? there are various plans available...

farkedup 06-10-2008 01:53 AM

the apple fanboys will go out like crazy to get it... really not all that impressed by the improvements, basically I think this is the phone that should have been here over a year ago...

this might officially make it the best smartphone NOW but I'm interested to see what the new HTC phones will do... everybody has managed to stay ahead of apple in specs but just been missing a fancy interface.

ideaworx 06-10-2008 01:55 AM

waaaaaah

bloggingseo 06-10-2008 02:04 AM

Gee thanks guys ;-)

exactly... not even being able to improve the crappy camera is very weak apple.... VERY weak.

Adam-NeonDollars 06-10-2008 04:04 AM

They are saving features for the third generation iphone :p

Stephen McTowelie 06-10-2008 06:26 AM

Yeah gonna stick to my nokia n95 thanks, I like the ability to take photos and video that arn't shit more than something that just looks cool. :2 cents:

MichaelP 06-10-2008 06:43 AM

I'll get the 16G as soon as available in Canada :)

DWB 06-10-2008 06:52 AM

They have the iPhones cracked in Thailand, no contract and for about $125. Not sure how it works, I don't have one, just see them for sale.

StuartD 06-10-2008 07:04 AM

Well, they beta tested it with Forbes list billionaires.... I seriously doubt those people were concerned with the quality of the camera.
Those people will have differing priorities in a cell phone than most individuals.

Anyway, no one should ever buy a cell phone to have a good camera. If you want a good camera, get a camera.

Matt 26z 06-10-2008 07:11 AM

Apple very carefully designs their products so that consumers will have a path to frequent upgrades. In other words, they hold back. They know that the typical Apple product user is not looking at tech specs. Purchase decisions are being made on marketing campaigns, something Apple is obviously very good at.

12clicks 06-10-2008 07:23 AM

awwww, sounds like someone is stuck with a crappy phone and wants to justify not upgrading to an iphone.

haha... yeah. that must be it.

alby_persignup 06-10-2008 07:52 AM

haven't tried the new version

flowereater 06-10-2008 07:54 AM

199$ works just fine :)

SykkBoy 06-10-2008 08:09 AM

my current iphone is just fine...edge versus 3G isn't really enough for me to rush out and buy the new one on day one...

F-U-Jimmy 06-10-2008 08:33 AM

This is an excellent phone for $199 and very useful if you travel to Europe often .

The only big issue i have is Apples link with the assholes at AT&T. The worst fucking company in the world bar none

I want the faster data. GPS, I have never had so not sure how cool it is. I use the current map system just fine and like it.

Camera, I have to agree with the other post. I carry a digital camera when I go out. I want decent pictures and cell phones are not there.

But I am not going to trade in my old iphone for the new one. Nice price for new buyers and hopefully the flood of customers will improve ATT. But otherwise I will wait my phone out.

Those of you dogging the iphone probably don't have one. It is really easy to do all the stuff the other phones do but you need to do all kinds of shit to make them work.

tranza 06-10-2008 08:45 AM

Yeah but i´d like to have one!

abadfish 06-10-2008 10:13 AM

Unfortunately we do not have 3G in my area (yet) but I am definitely looking forward to the GPS. I've seen pics from the camera and they look very decent to me, especially compared to all of my past phones. I already have a digital camera. I would only use my phone for random shots when I do not have my real camera. I think the iphone was developed as a mp3 phone first, not a camera phone.

These Apple bashers are worse then the "apple fanboys" they seem to despise so much.

ya it's REALLL convenient to carry extra camera with you everywhere you go to take couple of pictures... NOT

iphone is garbage, the only thing it just looks cool... i'll stick to my n95 which does everything better AND has a 5mp camera :winkwink:

payd2purv 06-10-2008 10:35 AM

Guys guys guys..

Your personal opinion is NEVER fact.

It's ok.. breath.. 1 - 2 - 3

btw 3G is bullshit in the USA and Canada.

I said "good camera"... you don't buy a cell phone to have a good quality camera any more than you buy a mini van to haul lumber.
Yes it can do it, but not as well as a truck would.

so when you want to take few pictures in day to day life you NEED to take professional pictures with 14mp camera?:1orglaugh your argument is weak... 4-5 years ago 3.2mp camera was almost top of the line

the camera argument is simply one of the bigger things that could have EASILY been upgraded but were simply neglected. The entire HTC line has switched to 3MP, Nokia's had 5 for quite a while.

I for one like to take some quick snaps with my phone.... Lets not forget that cellphone cameras are the #1 place to get voyeur type shots, the real amateur content where some drunk whore's just flash the tits and you snap it real quick... people are more trusting of a "crappy phone camera"

it should be able to focus (first iphone was horrible at it) and WHY NOT bump it up to 3Mp since the competition has done this for this product cycle.

Apple's business tactics are simply BAD for the consumer. The product is pretty damn good overall but simply makes me go WTF when I think about how there's NO REASON other than greed as to why this phone wasn't the one out over a year ago. It would have instantly been crowned king if they wouldn't be locked in with ATT and these specs on last years phone. As it stands HTC's new phones and many others are yet again going to have better specs while apple relies on its fanboy base

The problem is they're more feature laden than the first generation iPhones are/were.

Evil Chris 06-10-2008 12:44 PM

$199 will be attractive for many.... but that's with how long of a contract?

2 year new contract.

kristin 06-10-2008 12:49 PM

What is stupid to me about this phone (I don't have one) ... the picture capability.

Most can't receive pics and you can't take pics and send them through the phone. Odd.

Hell House Vic 06-10-2008 12:53 PM

it's pretty shitty that 3g is not going to be available to the old phones. is that right?

3G is something in the HARDWARE, so that and internal GPS will simply never happen. Bluetooth GPS should be an option though it thats important to you.

james_clickmemedia 06-10-2008 02:19 PM

I will be getting one as soon as my current contract expires, which I hope is not long..
Wish it could send pictures easily like all other phones...my current phone u just take the picture and select a contact from phone book and send...easy
