It's been done....i had on 03' civic i got up to 135 on a straight away (without red lining it), it could easily do 140 down hill :pimp

How much time do you have to spend cleaning bugs off your solar panels? Cause they are a bitch to get off a bumper or chrome already.

Easy fix: Take the diode gates offline when the car's driving. Solar cell becomes a nice little bug/anything else furnace.

Solar panels on cars are also mostly BS though, theres not enough in the trickle charge to really do anything related to driving. More to take care of the interior environ.. the climate, cd player etc. better than nothing though I guess.

Essentially you've just got to sit on your hands and wait for increased production and sales to bring properly manufactured ones down to a reasonable level if you don't want to pay 40-50k for what you can get currently relatively cheaply. (or 80-100k if you want something cool like the fisker karma or tesla)

The Fisker looks good. Tesla is unveiling their sedan model within the next month or so too. Expected starting price is 55k and upto 70k+ for the premium all electric model. The 55k will be a Range Extended EV with a regular engine kicking after 40-50~ miles. I'd imagine it will likely match 90-100 miles per gallon on the first 100 miles (as this one does). Should be interesting to see. We are certainly reaching the tipping point in the next 5 years as to when electric vehicles will truly become a reality.
