(VID) What's So Damn Exciting About Adult, Anyway?

Adult Insights Ep 26 Video ? The Last One!

This is the final installment of the 26 part series for adult webmasters. This one looks at why we do what we do from the perspectives of Dirty D from HowIGotRich, Kenny B of IACash, Benoit from ExpressPro, Paul Armstrong from AdultRental, Dwreck from WebcamCash, Robert Warren from SexDateCash, MediaGuy from 2Much.net, Shannon Warren from ThinkPinkOnline, Vic from KickAssPictures, Mario from LoadedCash, Sagi from AdultFriendFinder, Rob Waters from LiveBucks, Ken from TheBestPorn, Avalanche from CherryPimps, Elli from Streamray/Cams.com, Jay D from CrazyShit/FetishLoot, Monica from MovieDollars and Kevsh.

Some faves:
MediaGuy: "A sense of community that's born out of the "us against them" attitude."
Elli: "Wide open spaces. If you have an idea... you just create your own project and make it work."
Kevsh: "There's an energy that I didn't feel and don't see in other industries."

SponsorsList sends special thanks to Yappo Dollars for their support.

What do you find most exciting about working in adult?

MediaGuy 06-12-2008 10:03 AM

The last one!?

You got enough material outta me for a whole series all its own ;)

I do like the community spirit of the business, like KickAssVic was saying about it being a part of a fringe of the mainstream (of course it would be nice to not be reviled for what we do).

Like Vic, I've found a similarity to another music-scene associated fringe which was the deadhhead/hippie scene back when the Grateful Dead were touring. You could travel the country on ten bucks if you hooked up with the dead head scene, or just show up and there was immediate welcome (unless you proved to be an asshole in the end).

But there's no "weird" in adult, you don't have a uniform, a suit, a tie, a symbol of your "businessguy" status to wear. You can be at ease as yourself.

Plus, the people in the business love what they do, or most of us do. The energy of being at a show, and that everyone there is committed to what they do in a creative and technical and porn-kinky way is just the best.

The contrast was evident when the CES show was starting a few years back, and the Vegas Internext was ending - the two crowds kinda mixed at one point at a crossing of hallways and it was a telling scene.

The CES boys with their suits and haircuts and straight-backed business walks, were seemingly weirded out by the adult industry people just kinda humming in place or bouncing around, Hawaiian shirts and bermuda shorts and hangovers and deals in their pockets, whizzing all around them. To me that was a defining image.

:D

I wish I had of been there for that... :)

I'd have to say that I like the laid back attitude in adult, from dress, as you pointed out, to corporate communication. Getting business done over ICQ with faceless names seems common... and the pace is quick. That, and everyone is so damn colorful. As a journalist, that's worth it all by itself. ;)

I'm sad to see this series end. Hopefully you can make some new ones soon.

Hi Doug,

I just wanted to say that you did an outstanding job with the Adult Insights Video series and it was a pleasure to be able to participate and contribute.

As long as the online adult industry continues to grow and mature I know that I will always maintain my level of excitement. There are so many opportunities in so many areas of our industry for people to get involved and if you are one of those types that thrive on change and innovation.... you will LOVE this business as I do.

How about you just adopt a sign instead? Like Prince did before he changed it back to Prince...

Vic! I hadn't heard, but I've had me head up me arse for quite some time. Nonetheless, I'm sure the next step will be a big one. Thanks for the insights with the series. I'm sure more than a few new webmasters will have benefited from your candor.

Keep me posted on what you're doing next ;)

Hell House Vic 06-12-2008 02:34 PM
