David J. Stern might've closed his eyes and wished it not to be true, but it was probably always headed to:

Game 6, Lakers vs. Kings, 2002 Western Conference finals.

A game possibly affected by the league's desire to see the series extended and the Lakers as the victors. Cataclysm!
