It is way faster than Firefox 2. It's been reworked from the ground up. It outperforms all other browsers, including the new Opera 9.5, at least as far as speed goes.

It also means no more memory leaks, at least for now. We'll have to see how the upgrades go over time.

LilBro 06-18-2008 08:37 AM

been using FF3 for a few months now with beta... FF3 is best browser EVER just get it

DateDoc 06-18-2008 08:54 AM

Scotty.T 06-18-2008 08:57 AM

gleem 06-18-2008 08:59 AM

they test almost at the same speed. FF is faster on some things and Safari is faster on others but very close.

gleem 06-18-2008 09:12 AM

what I want to know is how it handles memory, Safari gobbles up Ram with a few tabs open

Same here, but Firefox 2 to me was a bad RAM hog. They had to fix that up for this release.

Use the foxmarks ff addon that stores all your bookmarks on a thirdparty server so you'll never lose them and can quickly add them to a new pc.

Well goddamn it to hell. The ONE thing I mentioned as the reason I still have FF 1 and IE 6 is because I'm afraid I'll lose my bookmarks and/or how they're organized. Can't these fuckers do the ONE thing everyone needs? Retain bookmarks?!? BAH!

SykkBoy 06-18-2008 09:38 AM

I've been using it for about a month now and haven't seen any major issues

:) Use mozbackup or google toolbar. Mozbackup will even keep your paswords, cookies and history.

About FF3 ... I don't see any significant difference in this version. They just fucked up interface imho... :|

I had a play with a couple of the browser.urlbar.* preferences this morning but couldn't fix it.

All I want to do is not have it return results based on the contents of the site title. :(

i always make backup before a new install... goto organize bookmarks, then export bookmarks to your desktop for backup

Hey dude, same thing happened to me. This is cuz of the ff2 to ff3 beta switch. Dont fret, all is saved:-

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookm...efox_3_upgrade

Manual deletion method:

1. Open the Firefox profile folder and delete the "places.sqlite" file and the localstore.rdf file.
2. Open the bookmarkbackups subfolder and remove all the .json files to another location.
3. Restart Firefox. Firefox 3 will then automatically import the bookmarks from "bookmarks.html" in the profile folder.

:thumbsup

could try...

Type about:config in address bar

browser.urlbar.maxrichresult change to 50
browser.urlbar.matchonlytyped change to true
browser.urlbar.autofill change to true

You can revert it back to FF2 style.

Unfortunately I have tried those options already and no luck. Thanks anyway.

Yes, it's fast but I think one reason of it is simplified image rendering engine. Here is an example: http://www.dvdxbase.com/

Open this URL in 2 browsers: IE7 and FF3 and compare the picture of a girl (the one holding her boobs in palms). You will see that in FF3 the image is blurred comparing to the IE7.

I love FF, but I don't like the way they used to speedup page rendering :2 cents:

pornguy 06-18-2008 10:12 AM

made a back up of the book marks, and now im going to DL the new 3.0

Sebastian Sands 06-18-2008 10:13 AM

I like it, except when I start typing a url it shows the sites title and description etc.. can you turn that off?

adult-help 06-18-2008 10:22 AM

Yeah, type-in support is a bit annoying and i can't find where to turn it off.

I quite like it, it looks like there's too much information at first, but then you find it quite useful.

You can just start typing any word you think was in the title of the page, and you see the options instantly of pages containing the word whether its in URL or in Page Title.

I think that roboform update came out after I had tried FF3 but it does work now.

Elli 06-18-2008 10:32 AM

Catalyst 06-18-2008 10:33 AM

That's exactly the reason I don't like it :) It is returning a load of non-relevant results that I don't need.

I can see it being useful if I was trying to find something but I would prefer it to be an easy option to switch on and off.

nosey 06-18-2008 11:03 AM

AwesomeBar/

i found one addon that is suppose to make the location(URL) bar look like firefox 2, but it isn't compatible with the latest version of firefox 3 :error

so far *below is the best solution to make the location(URL) bar similar to firefox 2, until a updated/new addon is made or Mozilla adds options to change it...

--------------------------------------------
Type about:config in address bar

browser.urlbar.maxrichresult change to 50 (max # of visited type-in URLs to display)
browser.urlbar.matchonlytyped change to true
browser.urlbar.autofill change to true
--------------------------------------------

>or could try this addon also (Hide pages [bookmarks] that you haven't visited from showing in the AwesomeBar)

tranza 06-18-2008 11:07 AM

Firefox 3 is really good!

I'll try the last addon once I find my Firefox log-in. :)

From the description and comments posted about it, it still doesn't look like it's gonna get rid of the 'Page Title' results.

for roboform users
http://www.roboform.com/browsers.html#browser_mozilla
