my new neighbor can't connect to my internet ?

A few days ago she was having problems getting her internet connection. She decided to use mine because I was the new network name on the block. She was having some problems and decided to come over and ask me if I was mrsp0ck. I told her yes and she said she was having problems connecting to it. I said my internet was down. "Oh okay" ... :Oh crap . Now she calls me mr spock in between screaming at her kids all day :thumbsup

I hate to inconvenience folks. I hope my connection is fast enough for her.

yes, and then go over there at some point and say "my entertainment center and air conditioner kinda flicker when my 2 freezers kick on... are you having trouble with your power?"

She needs some real bandwidth. Give her full access to yer huge connection.

dude something like that happened to me

My network was named "PHEER" and one day I noticed it got really slow. I couldnt figure out why so I put a password on it and rebooted the router... suddenly it was back to its normal speed. A couple days later my neighbor's kid asked me if my network was down, and I said no.. why do you ask? He said cause he cant get on it anymore and I was like wtf man... how do you know which network is mine, there are several that I can reach... he pointed out my license plates say PHEER.

The little fucker was using it for hix xbox and downloading movies and music. That taught me to not have an unsecured wifi.

VeriSexy 06-18-2008 11:58 PM

Damn bandwidth thieves.. but also your fault for not securing your network

munki 06-19-2008 12:01 AM

That's why I keep my network hidden, mac addy secured, plus the normal password security...

st0ned 06-19-2008 12:04 AM

LMFAO! That is quite amusing, can't believe someone would actually stop by asking and alerting you to their use of your network. Have you secured it yet?

I turn my wireless off, if I want wireless for the laptop there's currently 15 unsecured networks with a strong signal I can tap into thx to my neighbours.

but 99.9% of people dont know how to do it...I would never go without a password

Emil 06-19-2008 02:20 AM

Yes, WEP isn't that safe. That's why you should use WPA or WPA2 which is a bit safer.
