Dual Monitor -- I'm Addicted!

Aw man, this rocks so much! We have an extra monitor kicking around for a few days until a friend picks it up, so I'm trying out dual monitor. I'm afraid I'm quite hooked. there's no going back to a single screen now!

Zuzana Designs 06-19-2008 03:27 PM

ohhh once you go 2 you will want 3 then 4 it just does not stop ..
try Ultramon for sweet dual controls. Someone posted it here last week it rocks
I bought it, the free trial is great and got me hooked

tranza 06-19-2008 03:30 PM

I love it too. I have been using it for a couple of year already, I don't know how I lived without it to work!!

J. Falcon 06-19-2008 03:32 PM

Yeah, you can never go back to 1.

when developing in visual studio or the likes dual screen is a god damn must

u-Bob 06-19-2008 03:34 PM

dynastoned 06-19-2008 03:35 PM

haha i got my daulies a few months back and now i want 2 more. i love it!!!

jhauser 06-19-2008 03:35 PM

whenever I use someone elses machine etc I cannot function doing with one. I keep dragging things way off the to the side.

Sly 06-19-2008 03:37 PM

Elli what size are they? I run a 24 inch and I love it. It's kind of like having dual but in my opinion, better. Going back to a regular 20 inch would drive me crazy.

I shudder to think of life before 4-5 monitors going... :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/

super simple to install

qwe 06-19-2008 03:50 PM

is there anyway to make windows taskbar show on the second screen too? when I do "extend desktop to dual screen" option I just see background on the second screen, but not the task bar... anyone?

Yup, try http://www.mediachance.com/free/multimon.htm I've been using the free version for years

CaveCreek_Russell 06-19-2008 03:57 PM

Dual monitors are definitely addictive. I have them at home and work fora while now, can't imagine ever going back to one.

stickyfingerz 06-19-2008 03:58 PM

Old pic but Ive been running dual monitors since 2001. My old Sony huge 20" crt's back in the day, and now Dual 22" Samsung Syncmasters. Basic setup is stil the same with a few changes.

thx bro, can I also have different resolutions on each screen with that ? also, can it have 2 start buttons on each screen ?

Spunky 06-19-2008 03:59 PM

Sweet looking set ups

prodiac 06-19-2008 04:02 PM

I ran dual monitors for a long time, and swore I'd never be able to work again without it .. but it started killing my neck, just the little turns to the side. I decided to get a 24" widescreen, and I'd never go back. I love the widescreen with the high resolution.

Get UltraMon, it extends taskbar somewhat to other screen and lets you move windows over with single mouse click ;) I also find useful display profiles - i have set one for work with max resolutions on both monitors and another one for movies with lower screen res on one screen, this way I don't have to go to display properties all the time

I used to have that same exact desk I think. I love that thing until I moved it once to many times and it started breaking into pieces.

Tuga 06-19-2008 04:05 PM

Dual monitors is so 2004.

but will it have 2 start buttons? like windows taskbar with start button on one screen, and same thing on the other? or it only extends taskbar and Im only able to have 1 start button for 2 screens?

candyflip 06-19-2008 04:13 PM

I have 2 30'' on my desktop, but they're running off of separate machines.

nope, only one Start button, taskbar simply extends over to another monitor.. and unfortunately it doesn't let you do things like split multiple windows horizontally or vertically on the 2nd screen.. but other than that I can't imagine dual setups without Ultramon

quesadilla 06-19-2008 04:19 PM

Ultramon.... All the way. :)

Xrated J 06-19-2008 04:23 PM

triple 24's is the way to go

Nah, the free version doesn't have two start buttons.

So true. I went from dual:

to triple:

:winkwink:

StuartD 06-19-2008 04:33 PM

wait, all this time you've only been using one monitor??

I no longer consider you the geek I once thought you were :upsidedow

brandonstills 06-19-2008 04:49 PM

30" 2560x1600 (right)
24" 1920x1200 (left)

Still need more screen real estate. Web developing has so many windows. Javascript console, unix shell, mysql prompt, textmate, browser page you're working on, API documentation in a separate browser. All need to be on the screen at once to avoid switching windows and slowing you down. If I had the money I would get another 30".

Rochard 06-19-2008 04:51 PM

It's like crack!!!!

Kard63 06-19-2008 05:25 PM

I hate widescreen. 21.4" is the biggest standard size I could find. and yes, I rock two of them.

vidsta 06-19-2008 05:28 PM

<-- seven screen system with simultan acces to 3 different networks :winkwink:

fris 06-19-2008 05:29 PM

i have dual 30" dell widescreens, would never go back to 1 monitor

interesting... we have it the other way around for the video editing station: 4 towers connected to one LCD monitor thru a KVM switch

but thank god all i have to deal with is my laptop :)

Elli 06-19-2008 06:26 PM

hehe well I guess I'm not the only one in love with dual, then :)

Right now I've doubled up my desk to 2 Samsung 20" 205BW's both at 1680x1050. My man is on a single 24" BENQ G2400 and he says he's converted to the 24 for good now. I guess we're both getting upgrades for summer? :) We're also both playing with Ubuntu which is very exciting!

GCN 06-19-2008 07:12 PM

nice set ups

woj 06-19-2008 07:29 PM

I thought 2 monitors would be stupid, but once I tried, I'm not ever going back.... :thumbsup
