Martha Stewart banned from Britain Visa Refused !

Martha Stewart has been banned from entering Britain because of her criminal record.

The lifestyle guru was planning to visit Britain in the coming days for business engagements but the Daily Telegraph and other British newspapers reported Friday that she had been denied permission to enter, due to her 2004 convictions for obstructing justice and other crimes.

Stewart's assistants confirmed that she had been denied a visa.

"Martha loves England; the country and English culture are near and dear to her heart," said Charles Koppelman, chairman of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

"She has engagements with English companies and business leaders and hopes this can be resolved so that she will be able to visit soon."

British and U.S. citizens generally enjoy visa-free travel between their countries. However, people with certain convictions are not eligible for the visa waiver and must apply for visas.

The reason I posted this is I was told that the USA and UK can actually refuse entry to anyone with any type of criminal conviction if they so wish although they dont at present push this issue to its maximum.

Is this true and could it prove a problem for some webmasters later especially visiting the USA to attend shows as security gets tighter ?

Are you intending on committing a few murders?

payd2purv 06-22-2008 01:07 AM

Holding a Visa or a passport from a waiver country, does not guarantee you entry. Immigration officials at the point of entry have the final say and they can (and do) refuse entry to valid Visa holders.

That goes for all countries, not just the US.

And she isn't banned from Britain, she was refused a Visa. Big difference.

I "alluded" police a decade ago when i had just turned 18.

It's even off of my official record "expunged". And have had a clean record since.

Canada still turned me around the 3rd time i tried to enter :2 cents:

hahahahaha

Right back to the 1960s both the US and the UK have needed visa applications from people with criminal records.

Canada and the USA have similiar agreements. For example, a DUI convinction can get you stopped at the border, even smaller offences. I know quite a few people who can't freely cross the border because of past convinctions.

And that includes the President of the United States ... according to what I've read over the years, President Bush, who got a DUI in 1976, was given an exemption while he's President to enter Canada.

I wonder what kind of porn Martha is into?

I hate Martha Stewart. Bitch already had more money than she could ever spend, yet was still willing to break the law to get more.

payd2purv 06-22-2008 11:46 AM

Same deal goes with the USA... criminal record or say something dumb and they won't let you in...

hmmm :Oh crap

JayMoyes 06-22-2008 10:32 PM

If I remember right, it's not confined to crime. I don't know about the UK, but during the 80's, the U.S. would deny entry to dissidents and activists from South America.

Heck, there was an episode of Miami Vice about....oh hell, I'm dating myself aren't i?

Sarah_Jayne 06-23-2008 03:14 AM

Having grown up with a mother that watched her a lot, it does make me slight happy because until now she has nearly no air time over here. Now, if we could ban Oprah it would be even better.

Manowar 06-23-2008 03:28 AM

That's why you have long check-in times for international flights.

digifan 06-23-2008 03:35 AM

Why I am not surprised... se got what she deserved.

For the little it's worth you're very wrong. They don't have access to the records unless the crime warrants hitting interpol :2 cents: (disclaimer - no idea about Canada and the US. Referring to international flights here i.e. European contries would be a good example)

Madame0120 06-23-2008 05:19 AM

She must have pissed someone off real bad ... for her Parole Officer not to grant permisson to work out of the country - those issues are generally at their discreassion. She was more crabby than usual on The Next Food Network Star, last week.

pornguy 06-23-2008 05:41 AM

Dont worry, MOney will prevail.

VeriSexy 06-23-2008 07:22 PM

Canada refuses Martha Stewart entry due to convicted felon status

Canada's immigration laws have put the kibosh on convicted felon Martha Stewart's plans to attend a pumpkin festival in Windsor, Nova Scotia.

Stewart had planned to tape for her syndicated talk show "Martha," her appearance at the pumpkin festival and parade celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

But the trip was called off at the last minute when officials refused to grant Stewart -- who was convicted of lying about a stock sale -- an exemption to the law aimed at keeping foreign criminals off Canadian turf.

Delia Smith probably had it arranged so her act wouldn't be stolen.

obviously not.. most countries wouldn't freely pass along their citizens info to any country who asked. Most likely its done on an individual basis.

Otherwise it would be easy for a country like IRAN lets say to sell criminal record checks on all americans.

Brad 06-24-2008 08:59 AM

Screw Martha Stewart. Funny that she is not allowed in Canada but Home Depot has no problem selling her paint products. That is slightly fucked up and backwards I think. Regardless, who really cares about Martha Stewart? She fucked people over she deserves to be stuck within the US borders.

F-U-Jimmy 06-24-2008 09:57 AM

Even before 911 it was tough to get into the USA. I was married to an American and it took me 6 months of police background checks and a medical to move here. Apparently if you have any sort of criminal record. Or a medical history of TB, HIV, Cancer etc they will stop you from living in the USA on a permanent basis :helpme:helpme
