A member of farang-Thai porn operation that PDN reported on last year has re-emerged into the limelight as the organiser of a Bangkok porn gang. On April 7, 2007, three men, John Gilbert Bowen (60) and his gang were apprehended making porno movies in Pattaya, using Thai bar girls and katoeys as sex artistes.


Two weeks ago, the following news was published in Thai on the Manager Online Newspaper and recommended to PDN News by one of our readers.

Apparently, at 6.30 pm, on 12 June , 2008, Police Lieutenant General Somyos Poompanmoung, Police Major General Wisut Wanichbut and a police team from the Child Juvenile and Women Division (CWD) brought a warrant to search a room in Thomson Residence, Bangna Trad, Bangkok, after being notified that a group of foreigners was making a porn movie.

On entering the apartment, they found pornography and video equipment for making porn and all kinds of sex equipment, as well as VCDs and photos. The police also found a gang in the room: three men Messrs.Joe Macos Perlaila (23), Morikane(25) Philipe K. Orivera (29), (all Brazilian), Mrs. Teres Sita Edades(25) Philipina and Mr. Wittaya Mekwilai(25) a Thai Krateuy, who were all in the act of having sex and being filmed. The police found a fully equipped studio set with lights, flash equipment and a big video camera for taking movies and photos, gel and boxes of condoms.

The police revealed that 2 weeks ago they'd had an advance report that this group of people would be filming their movie on such and such a day at this location. They had consequently followed this team, which was apparently run by Mr. John Gilbert Bowen (60), one of the three men who was originally arrested in Pattaya in April, 2007.

Police announced that the criminals will be charged and face 3 years in prison and also fined not more than 6000 baht. They then sent this group of people to the local police station.

I think that DWB had something to do as well and there was some big beef going on.

Well thai girls are probaly very cheap so it is worth to risk to be arrested.

John and I had serious problems before but have let bygones be bygones. It's dangerous enough shooting over there without having to look over your shoulder knowing someone is out to get you.

To put that story correct, I don't think they actually "caught" John as the report says. As far as I know only the Brazilians were arrested. Thai reporting is something to be taken with a grain of salt. Keep in mind the last American arrested there two weeks before this arrest, the Thai police said he was selling his movies to YouTube.com and Amazon.com.

What I do know is anyone arrested in Thailand makes it more difficult for the rest of us. Enemy or not, it's not good for business. :2 cents:

And for those of you who ask WHY THE RISK? My answer is WHY DOES ANYONE TAKE A RISK? MONEY. John knew the risk, as do I and the other producers. Tomorrow could just as easily be one of us that you're reading about.

Above all else, here is the #1 reason I don't like to see producers arrested in Thailand: Because if all of my competition is arrested, then who are the police going to come for next? The answer is ME.
